5 things I wish I knew when planning my own wedding flowers 🤍
When I was a bride, I was overwhelmed with choice. Fresh or faux? Large installation or delicate pieces? How much should I spend? Now, as a florist, I see the same worries on my clients’ faces every day. If I could go back in time, here is exactly what I’d whisper in my own ear while planning:
1. There is no right or wrong. 🤍
Seriously. There is no “wedding rulebook” you have to follow. Want a massive, overflowing bridal bouquet but zero flowers on the tables? Do it. Looking for bright colours in the winter? Go for it. Your wedding should look like your love story, not anyone else’s.
2. Stop comparing yourself to other weddings. 🌸
Comparison is the absolute thief of joy—especially in wedding planning. Step away from the Pinterest boards that make you feel inadequate, and stop choosing things just because you think it’s what your guests “expect” you to have. It’s your day, not theirs.
3. Not everyone needs a buttonhole. 🌷
The days of buying a buttonholes for every single uncle, cousin, and usher are over (unless you want to!). Truly, not everyone needs one.
4. It’s about the impact, not the total investment. ❤️
You don’t need to sprinkle tiny jars of flowers in every single corner of a venue to make it look beautiful. Instead, focus your budget on high-impact areas, like a stunning ceremony backdrop that repurposes to your top table, or a dramatic entrance piece.
5. Trust your florist’s creativity. 🌻
The best magic happens when you give your florist a colour palette, a general vibe, and the freedom to create. Mother Nature changes by the week, and letting us source the absolute best, most beautiful blooms available on your specific weekend will always yield a better result than forcing a strict recipe.
🌸 Couples, take a deep breath. Your day is going to be beautiful because it is yours 🌿
