Today marks six years since our little sister came in to being.
Edinburgh Food Delivery launched in March 2020 by Russell & Douglas in response to all TECC work ceasing to exist in the wake of COVID. Unbelievably, this venture pandemic-proofed our business, kept us all in jobs and even allowed us to grow the team and take on 2 full time members of staff that year.
The support we received was incredible. Genuinely mind-blowing. The “launch” was a post by Claire on the facebook group explaining the pretty dire situation we were in with our event work on hold indefinitely and then pitching the food delivery concept Russell & Douglas were working on. Immediately, people were falling over each other to place orders with us and sending messages of encouragement. EGG was a real pillar of support for us in the early days - thank you wonderful women of Edinburgh!
Within just a couple of days, Douglas had worked relentlessly to build the first Edinburgh Food Delivery website, listing our first 48 products (catering sized tins of tomatoes, 5kg jars of Nutella, ginormous bags of flour and a rainbow of fruit & veg). By the end of the summer, our shop had grown enormously; we were stocking more than 500 products, had our license to sell alcohol and had expanded our delivery radius to include all EH postcodes 🤯 the support for our fledgling (and life-saving) business was truly phenomenal.
We built amazing relationships with suppliers and other local businesses through EFD. We grew to know our regular customers and delivered beef wellingtons for festive feasting all across the UK (though the stress of using couriers at Christmas meant we’ve kept it local pretty much ever since 🫣🫠).
EFD has been a little on the back burner of late (we’ve had quite a bit on our plates 🤪) but keep your eyes peeled and maybe she’ll have a glow up in her future 👀
