To any prospective couples reading this. I am PANTS at updating my page as I'm really not a Facebook fan. I am however, a consistent and dedicated Instagramer, so I would urge you to check out my feed and stories where life for this Humanist Celebrant is usually a whole lot more interesting!

For example, I wed this lovely couple yesterday in bonnie Berwickshire and had japes at the border ... but I'll only ever remember to post on Instagram 😄

Today's delicious croissant 🥐 o' a review with a side portion of berries 🍒 and yoghurt ('cos, balance) comes courtesy of the beautiful and her delightful fella (bringing the Chris Akabusi vibes, always) Simon. I had such a great time getting to know these two and their sweet, wee lass Lily who just also happens to be my birthday twin (albeit separated my many, many years 😂😂).

Such a fun, happy day with all of the confetti 🎊, fizz and dancing 🩰. Lush fae start to finish 🤌🏼✨

I think this sums these two up ✨ .ophelia and Dale are two of the most charming, original, free-thinking and utterly loved-up-with-each-other couples I have met ❤️ Their ceremony was filled with joy, love, laughter and thankfully, no ice cubes or cheesy chat-up lines were involved in the making of it ... unlike their initial meeting 😂 🧊

✨✨ F U L L Y ° B O O K E D ✨✨

'Tis with a heart stappit fu o' gratitude and a deer-like spring in my step, that I announce that I am closing my 2025 bookings diary. I'm literally at my limit for weddings this year (happy, happy days 😘🙌🏼) but it's also important to me that I keep myself available for the other ceremonies that you don't see me doing; funerals.

As a Humanist, I want to be there for you and to delight in the joy of your wedding day, but I also want to be there for people when they need me most of all. Being there for families in times of grief and loss is so important to me. I know only too well how deep and awful those waters are to navigate. To support, listen and to tell the story of a loved one is the ultimate privilege and not something I tend to talk about here on the 'gram. But there you have it; it's the truth.

Whilst it might sound a bit hippy-dippy, I always endeavour to be love ❤️ and light ✨ in any room I'm in and so, for that reason, I also need to recharge a bit in between. Hence me closing the ol' diary and exercising some serious Wu Wei on the side 😎 of things too.

I'm cock-a-hoop grateful to everyone who sees me, gets me, connects with me and who entrusts me with their story.
You are the most glorious, bobby dazzling humans ❤️ 🫶🏼 ✨ and I am chuffed cherry red 🍒 tae be working with you!

The tastiest smorgasbord o' feedback crudités (and dips) fae my favourite Aussies and aka Australia's sweetest couple TM© Their wedding was the epitome of laid-back and fun, and they brought the best vibes. Two o' the warmest breezes tae have blawn my way. It was such a delight to marry them ❤️✨

I soooo want to do another Australian wedding, so hit me up my Antipodean hearties! I'll only say yes!! 🙌🏼

Today's delectable roulade of a review (with raspberries 🍓 cream and choklit on top - natch 🍫) comes courtesy of my angel delights, and Sammy who I wed last May. It was a hot, beautiful day in Auld Reekie and the was a 🍑 of a venue.

This was such a fun ceremony to perform as I tag-teamed with their lovely pal, .8091 who translated my script into German 🇩🇪 for some of the guests. I adore other cultures and languages so, if any of you are keen to include aspects of these in your ceremony or would like a bilingual ceremony, then I'd only be too happy to accommodate (and then pester you for phrases to practice!)

I have French, Polish and Bulgarian ceremonies coming up soon. Honestly, what a privilege this job is! 😊

Y'know those days when you receive an email from some technotwat letting you know that your GoogleMaps Business page has been suspended ... and all because you recently moved house? Aye, that 🤦🏼‍♀️ Needless to say that I dealt with this technical hiccup with my usual charm and grace - by mainlining chocolate biscuits, crying into my dog's fur and then bursting into a plume of smoke from which, a beautiful bird emerged ... spreading its wings and flying far off into the distance ... to poo on Google's HQ, mostlike.

Ok, so maybe that's a bit too far-fetched but losing gorgeous reviews from my sweet, sweet couples has left me raw with anxiety and I fully expect that my eyebrows will be falling out by next week. A proportionate response; I'm sure you'll agree.

Yet, all is not lost *tapes on a smile* and it's in times like these that the joy inherent in discovering that you actually screenshot those same reviews a wee while ago, has renewed my faith in kismet. Ergo, I have decided to bide my time (whilst simultaneously online wrestling with Silicon Valley bots) by parking here some of the amazing reviews I have been so very grateful to receive from YOU, ye bunch o' smashers ye!

Ahoy friends and fellow travellers! I’m Gillian and I’m a Humanist Celebrant based in Aberdeenshire (as well as Edinburgh and Dundee) who works across Scotland.

I’ve had an interesting career trajectory, initially working in the music industry (for Domino Recording Co. and Rough Trade Records, in case you're curious) before training to be a teacher. I taught Drama for a number of years before moving into Support for Learning where my specialism was working with neurodivergent young people. I enjoyed my years teaching and there are some things I miss; all of them children ☺️ But I would say that the combination of public speaking, dealing with people and the creativity of my previous careers has equipped and led me to where I have arrived today.

I came to Humanism through the experience of writing and performing readings at a number of friends and family weddings, and in delivering part of the eulogy at the funeral of my best friend. I always felt so much more of a connection with Humanist ceremonies which left me with such a positive, life-affirming feeling that they made me want to explore the philosophy more. Humanism embodies all of the values that I hold dear – those of creativity, inclusivity, empathy, progressiveness, reason and tolerance 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ I see my role as a Humanist celebrant as a form of creative expression and I feel privileged to be entrusted with your story.

A ceremony which honours exactly who people are, filled with the best anecdotes, memories and unique flourishes is the best way to celebrate any major life milestone. Do you want your wedding ceremony conducted in a tattoo shop or in the middle of a hedge maze? I am always up for anything a bit quirky and open to ideas!

Look at these two absolute belters having THE BEST time on their wedding day as only and can 😂😂 I think if you were to plonk Heather and Mike into an empty room together they’d manage to start a party 🥳 🎉 such is their joie de vivre and Iggy Pop style, lust for life!

They wed in the very cool to a soundtrack of Frightened Rabbit (of which, I was thrilled!), giggling their way through their outstanding, hilarious vows (both are amazing writers 🖋️) and wrapping it all up with a traditional handfasting (the cord made by Heather’s own fair hands). Oh, and of course, they had matching tattoos done by the super talented Steph to commemorate their big day. They also got their very own canine wedding crasher in who diligently guarded the sausage rolls for them. (She says, “You’re welcome!”)

An absolute gem 💎 o' a wedding for an absolute pair o' diamonds. Heather and Mike, that one was beyond a pleasure! Thank you so much for entrusting me with your story and having me along for the ride!

Keep living in colour 🌈 you beautiful pair!
