All good things must come to an end.
Miss World will be 10 this year. A wee history of the night: Miss World was founded in 2015 by , , Daisy and others who recognised the need for a night in Edinburgh which wasn’t run by men. Soon after, joined. As time went on the lineup changed, adding and in 2019, and then changed again a couple of years later as Alliyah and Emily’s personal careers took them elsewhere. Miss World became a two person team - Julia and Feena - and in 2024 joined the pageant. Each resident has contributed something different to the night which is so special.
On personal level, I (Feena) have learnt so much from joining the collective of an already established night with a residency at Sneaky Pete’s. Having the guidance was a huge privileged, and Julia and Emily created a safe and nurturing environment to learn about how to run a night.
Gradually over the months I became familiar with the different processes it involved from communicating with agents to programming. The residency gave me the freedom and security to make mistakes and learn from them. I can’t describe how invaluable this learning process was, and it doesn’t escape my notice how rare it is either.
As lives change and people move forward, and with Julia stepping back from the night, I’ve felt like I’m at the helm of something which isn’t really fully mine. I want to create something new which I have complete creative freedom and ownership over, so that’s what I’m doing.
part one will be on 11.04.25. I hope Miss World regulars will come with me on this next step. If you’ve enjoyed the MW programming over the last couple of years, I think Mantle will resonate with you.
A huge, huge thank you to everyone who has played, danced at, and supported Miss World - and a special shout out to . To and for initially taking a punt on Miss World with a Monday night slot and then trusting us with a regular Friday, and to , and the brilliant bar staff for the continued support and trust over the years.
