Hey everyone,

This post sadly was a long overdue one. As some of you have noticed TFZ hasn’t been as active this year and though there is various reasons why this is both personal and professional, I (Evie) have decided with a heavy heart to discontinue The Forbidden Zone Collective.

Since I founded it in November 2023 I have met some of the most amazing people, musicians, artists in the Edinburgh alternative scene. I have had the privilege to book some of the most amazing local bands and watch hundreds of you perform on stages all around Edinburgh. The community that has built up around The Forbidden Zone are genuinely so dedicated to creating a scene passionate about grassroots music and I know in our absence this community will continue to thrive and spread joy wherever they go.

I would like to thank ._jh_.graphy for being such an amazing gig photographer, since I booked you you have never failed to deliver beautiful pictures that document the variety of performances The Forbidden Zone had to offer, I can’t wait to look back on them in years to come and remember fondly the nights you photographed.

I would also like to thank people who were there at the beginning of TFZ that without you wouldn’t have made it what it is today, Bruce and Danny you pushed me where I didn’t know I needed to be and encouraged me to continue to work hard on days I was willing to give up.

To Richard Shields and who gave us a chance to start something new, opportunities that I will never forget that highlight the importance of taking chances on people in a creative scene like this.

Tony, Sabine and Gillian of , you have become my best friends and I’m so excited to see what your collective continues to produce, can’t wait to DJ with you again.

And to Jamie who always bought a ticket even though he didn’t need to, thank you for showing up month after month to have a boogie with us.

May 14th will be our last gig so please come and support the amazing bands on the bill, the ticket link is in our bio.

With heavy hearts we are sad to announce that we have to cancel our 2 year birthday festival at Home Bar.

Right now as a collective we are finding it difficult to balance our personal lives and the gigs we put on.
We love the scene and all the bands we put on please go send them all your support!

This month, Born To Be Wide present The Power of Music Collectives, a panel exploring how grassroots collectives champion diverse genres and communities, support emerging artists and create new opportunities across Scotland’s music scene.

Join Evie Smith (The Forbidden Zone Collective), George McFadyen (Crowded Flat), Sanjeev Mann (Hip Hop Scotland) and Vicky Kavanagh (Works in Progress) as they discuss how collectives operate and share practical tips for starting your own.

Following the panel, members of Hen Hoose and High Rise Collective will soundtrack the networking social with a handpicked selection of Scottish tracks.
