The Nomads Tent

Opened in 1983 The Nomads Tent is a well established rug shop and gallery space. We have something for everyone.

The Nomads Tent is an Aladin's Cave of tribal art with lots of room for social distancing. Selling everything from rugs, runners and kilims, to furniture, jewellery textiles and ceramics. Pop in to see our latest stock from Iran, India and Vietnam.

to the last photo we took of the St Leonard’s Lane shop before our move to Warrender Park Road. It was the perfect day to capture that charming vintage car parked outside — and not another vehicle in sight. A lovely little moment to remember.

Introducing our latest handwoven Sultani carpet from Afghanistan 294 x 250 cms. The soft golden hues and gentle blues give this rug a lovely shimmery glow in the natural light. Sultani rugs are known for their intricate floral arabesques with ornate borders giving them a timeless elegance which would look great in either a contemporary or traditional home.

In older nomadic cultures across the Middle East and Asia, kilims were often hung on walls. Here is a lovely example, just delivered by The Nomads Tent to an Edinburgh home. Maimaneh kilim, Afghanistan, 295 x 80 cm, attached to wall-fixed batten with velcro.
