Scotland's Event Producers

Scotland's Event Producers Scotland EPIC encourages openness and communication within the events industry across Scotland. Sc

Scotland Event Producers Independent Committee (Scotland EPIC) was established amid the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown as the first line of defence for the events industry in Scotland. Our mission is to keep our community connected and well informed. Formed of some of the country’s leading independent event specialists it was created to connect with, and represent, those working at the coalface and most a

ttuned to the challenges they faced. It gained immediate traction with regular communication with Event Scotland and the Scottish Government’s Event Team as well as key industry organisations and individuals taking membership. It quickly became apparent that the impacts of Covid-19 would be far longer-lasting and devastating than first forecast and the potential impact and importance of EPIC for the industry became greater. Born out of exceptionally challenging circumstances it also became clear than an independently regulated event industry body that undertakes advocacy at a national level has an important part to play in the future of the industry in Scotland beyond Covid. With that in mind EPIC has identified the following aims and objectives as means to affect positive change for events in Scotland:

• Undertaking advocacy and lobbying at a national level with government and funding bodies to secure the future of events in Scotland - ensuring our seat at the table

• Representing the interests, concerns, challenges and ambitions of the event industry (our members) to key decision makers

• Developing sector-led strategy that will allow the event industry to bounce back from the impacts of Covid-19 - and thrive

• Holding bi-annual conferences that will create training, professional development and networking opportunities as well as encourage greater collaboration

• Promote Scotland’s position as a global festival and event leader

Initial funding announced to mitigate the impact of Omicron
Events businesses directly affected by the COVID-19 restrictions put in place in December and who have previously received funding from either of the Event Industry Support Funds or the Pivotal Event Businesses Fund are to receive top-up payments from the £19.8 million of funding confirmed by Cultural Secretary Angus Robertson on 3 January.

Up to £11 million of the £19.8 million will initially be used to provide top-up payments to eligible businesses and will be administered by EventScotland and VisitScotland on behalf of the Scottish Government, with businesses being contacted from Monday 24 January. There will be no application process for these businesses to complete, however, the businesses will be asked to confirm:

They are still trading;
Their bank details remain the same;
Confirm which event(s)/date they were due to organise and/or supply to has been cancelled or restricted during the period 08/12/21 and 31/01/22; and
That the cancellation or restriction of such event(s) has resulted in a loss of projected income during the period stated above.
Awards will be based on pre-COVID annual turnover, broken down as follows:

£10,000 - £24,999 = £2,000
£25,000 - £49,999 = £3,500
£50,000 - £99,999 = £5,000
£100,000 - £499,999 = £10,000
£500,000 - £999,999 = £25,000
£1,000,000 + = £50,000
EventScotland is currently working with the Scottish Government and the Event Industry Advisory Group to determine the best way of distributing the remaining funding to support to those event businesses continuing to experience cancellation or postponements in February and March, or who may have previously not had access to COVID-19 event funding support.

Empty seats, once more. 😥

Whilst this news of possible sustained restrictions on live events is grim for the events and cultural supply chain in Scotland, the news of some support is welcomed.

We are already in contact with Event Scotland and Scottish Goverenment of the what/when/how this urgent funding can be accessed, and will keep as many people updated as we can.

A new interim briefing has been published to provide support and strategic direction for festival organisers in the planning of festivals until the results of the Government’s Events Research Programme (ERP) and reviews on social distancing and Covid-Status Certification later this summer.

The documenT builds upon planning considerations published last year on the Purple Guide website and is again produced by leading practitioners from the festival industry, who continue to work in collaboration with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and Public Health England (PHE) to determine how music festivals could safely reopen with Covid-19 mitigation measures in place.

On the back of the successful B2B campaign in December 2020, the B2C version of the campaign is activating on Tuesday 30 March. The campaign encourages consumers to feel inspired by the range of event experiences on offer and feel reassured about planning for live experiences.

Using the hashtag, the event industry wants everyone to share the event they’re most looking forward to, whether it’s outdoor shows, festivals, live sporting activations, concerts, weddings or any other consumer event that they have missed – to showcase the range of experiences that touch people’s lives every day.

A 30 sec teaser extract from the campaign video to use is available here – https://we.tl/t-OY0yIu6Kiw - the full length video will be posted on Tuesday morning across social channels and onto the www.wecreateexperiences.co.uk website.

While we still advise ScotGov that there no matter what, there is a need for a trade guarantee fund put in place for Scottish event organisers and supply chain businesses, we will continuously back the need for a broader UK wide insurance fund.

There is a debate in Westmnister Hall about insurance and the event industry 9.25 this morning.

9.25–10.55am – Government-backed insurance for live events

To be moved by Jamie Stone, MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross.

Good luck Mr Stone ✊
