Today, someone brought it to my attention that the 'Country Market' event is causing a stir on some of the info pages, so I went to look...
Comments have been made that people/ business owners clearly have grudges against the event holders & that small businesses should be ashamed of themselves for not being supportive, blah, blah, blah.....hilariously, one even suggested that attending or taking an interest was being 'nosey'! π€
(Strangely, the same names keep cropping up in defence of the event, basically pooh poohing anyones opinion that doesn't match their own...a vested interest maybe? Biased? Who knows...π€·ββοΈ)
So, I personally just want to clarify a few things....
Yesterday, I turned off comments on my post, as I could see it would become something I never intended.
I posted what I did based on my own observations when I attended the market.
I went into town on the assumption (mainly due to how it was advertised) that I would find unusual items for sale, from local businesses, the likes of which we don't usually see at the regular market.
I didn't go as a trader 'to be nosey', I went out of interest as a resident of this town. I also didn't post about 'how busy it was' or the 'increase in footfall & benefits to other businesses' purely because I wasn't there any longer than about 20 mins, so how could I comment on how popular it was?!
And the reason I was only there for a short time, is because it quickly became apparent that there wasn't anything 'country' or unusual about the products (in my opinion), therefore it wasn't appealing to me. I truly wish that it was. I'd have loved to have purchased something different & unusual to take home with me.
As I mentioned in my past post, what I did see were products & produce normally associated with the regular markets & at a much higher price. I saw many items that I do sell & have previously sold, with a much higher price tag. Of course I'm going to take an interest & look at the price tags if I see the same items that I sell! Who wouldn't, seriously?! π
(And in all honesty, I walked away feeling good in the knowledge that my wares are fairly priced & great value for money)
As a market trader, I am going to have an opinion on that (& in support of my fellow traders), I've every right to voice it on my own page.
Sorry if that disappoints anyone πββοΈ
Nowhere, absolutely nowhere in my previous post about this, was I defamatory, nasty or negative.
I clearly stated at the very beginning, I believe there is room for everyone. I also stated that people are free to choose, where, when & how they spend their money.
I also urged people to remember the loyal, longstanding, regular market traders, who have already been having a tricky time recently with lots of different changes & to remain supportive of them.
I'm struggling to see why anyone would have an issue with that!
I do wonder, if the people jumping to the defence of this 'country market', are just as quick & eager to speak up for the regular traders...
Most of us become creatures of habit & perhaps head into the market for a few specific things & come away again...please, give yourselves an extra 15 minutes grace & go for a look around & see what really is available every week. You might be very pleasantly surprised.
π¨π¨π¨ Spoiler Alert π¨π¨π¨
* I don't have any 'grudge' against the event holders
* I don't know the company owners
* I'm not against events being held in the market
* I have not made 'anonymous' comments on any pages
Sorry if that doesn't suit a narrative that's been created
If other individuals or businesses have any issue with the company that put on the event, for whatever reason, that is nothing at all to do with me. I will not be held responsible for the comments other people make underneath my posts.
If I feel anyone has followed or commented my on page or posts, to miscontrue & twist my words for mischief, you & your comments will be removed. I won't stand for it.
I've lived here all my life & I want to see this town thriving, not just surviving.
That's all I have to say on the subject.
See you on Saturday!βοΈ
