WEDDING FAIR THIS SATURDAY THE 4th OCTOBER! If getting married in a castle could be your thing then really should be up there, front of house, top of the list. Such a spectacular place and I’ve shot enough weddings there to know and to be be able to shout its praises from the rafters - outside and in it’s truly epic. 🍂 Autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons to get married, and it’s just around the corner. So as an experienced wedding photographer, here’s what you can expect on your wedding day or even if you’re planning an autumn wedding:

📸 Lighting: The sun sets earlier, which means golden hour happens sooner in the day. Make sure you plan your timeline carefully to capture that dreamy, soft, golden light.

🍁 Colors & Backdrops: Nature does half the work for you so make sure you take advantage of it - rich reds, golds, and oranges create stunning natural backdrops for portraits which you just don’t get in other seasons.

🌡️ Weather Considerations: Temperatures can dip quickly. Having wraps, blankets, or cozy indoor spaces ensures comfort while still allowing for gorgeous outdoor shots.

The Proposal. The start of forever deserves to be remembered beautifully and to capture this, planning is everything: it’s all about the where and the how.

I’ve shot at this magnificent part of many times and know how beautiful it can look but it was important the proposer knew beforehand exactly where to position himself for me to capture his girlfriend’s reaction.

Also, and this is a BIG one, how would I do this? My suggestion was to be “hidden in plain sight” and to already be there photographing the location (I said to mention there may be a photographer taking some shots for the castle to use for marketing!) rather than be lurking somewhere and risk being seen (the last pic is me getting my location just right for the composition).

And if you’re wondering…she said yes!!! 💍💍💍

The Gaze.

Tina Barney, a famous American portrait photographer, once said of one of her shots taken in 2004 of a teenage girl that “the gaze defines the entire spirit of the human being”. So true. I think these two images really highlight what is so important in wedding photography: to go beyond the obvious, and to be on the look out constantly to capture something truly special and unique to an individual. It becomes even more poignant with two people looking in to each other’s eyes while making their wedding vows.
