Practice at irishdriftseries Round 3 wasn’t all sunshine and wall runs. A lot of laps were put in to get myself up to some kind of speed.
First couple runs the gearing was miles out, exactly between gears, changed that and the heavens opened up! Before I even finished the next run the track was becoming full wet. 😅This actually worked in my favour as it slowed the layout so I could get a feel of it and eye up the zones. Then the next session was dry again, 90% confident with the track apart from initiation and clip 1-2, I couldn’t get my entry right which would have sabotaged any chance of a good quali score.
Fortunately by the end of Sunday practice, with some help chatting it through with the judges and Harry Kerr we found the key to unlock it. Focusing more on clip one rather than the blurred lines on track and ignoring the straight surface seems leading me in on the concrete was the answer. Now I got that line correct, I was advised we needed a gearing swap once again as I was now running a much wider line and running short of wheel speed. (I thought it was just me being crap 😅)
Lead initiation sorted and ready for quali! Not without removing the left rear light a few times on the wall at 3 🤪.
