We are currently recruiting for someone to join us as the General Manager at our wonderful ‘Maison Dieu’ venue situated in Dover. This building is steeped in history with the earliest parts of the building dating back to 1203! The building includes a disused Victorian gaol, two large halls, a disused courtroom, Council Chamber, and civic offices, as well as meeting rooms, kitchens and numerous ancillary spaces. It is an interesting beautiful and truly unique place to work.

The Post:

The Manager will be responsible for the development and maintenance of an effective hospitality service at Dover Town Hall. There will be a focus on business development at the venue, improving profitability and coordinating the day-to-day management of the facility.

The type of events held range from conferences, presentations and shows to large scale banqueting and weddings. The post holder will lead a small team including a Bars and Service Manager and need to have experience of team leadership, and a working knowledge of compliance-related activities including Health and Safety Matters and employee training and inductions.

Normal hours and days of work are envisaged to be worked during ‘office’ hours Tuesday to Saturday each week. However, during December and to cover large events and the annual leave of other team members some evening working will be required so some flexibility is required.

The Successful Candidate:

Applicants must have at least 5 years’ catering management experience, ideally gained in a similar hospitality environment. They will be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills, a working knowledge of planning and event management, team leadership and exceptional communication skills. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of health, safety and food hygiene (ideally qualified in support of these requirements) and must have full driving license as they may occasionally be required to work at other sites (e.g. Thanet and potentially Aylesham). The Manager will need to be eligible to be the venue DPS holder.

The ideal candidate will ideally be available for an immediate start.

This building is steeped in history with the earliest parts of the building dating back to 1203! The building includes a disused Victorian gaol, two large halls, a disused court room, Council Chamber, and civic offices, as well as meeting rooms, kitchens and numerous ancillary spaces. It is an interesting beautiful and truly unique place to work.

The Bars and Services Manager will be responsible for managing and running all events and functions at Dover Town Hall. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of all services through the services team. The type of events held range from conferences, presentations and shows to large scale banqueting and weddings. The post holder will also be responsible for assisting the Dover Town Hall Manager with all compliance related activities including Health and Safety Matters and employee training and inductions. Hours of work will include evenings and weekends and will require some flexibility to work more hours during busy periods such as the Christmas season. The job holder will also be required to support and work at other Your Leisure venues as and when required. This will include Margate Winter Gardens and Aylesham Welfare Leisure Centre.

Applicants must have at least 2 years’ operational experience gained within a busy, high standard food and beverage environment.
