Remove the word ā€˜wedding’ from your day. What would that look like? How would your portraits differ if no longer ā€œweddingā€ portraits. Would you feel the need to recreate whatever was trending? Something that didn’t feel right to you? How about if it was you and your partner just hanging out together for a few minutes: how would that look?

I’ve always loved taking someone’s portrait. I don’t need a performance for that to happen. I’m more interested in light and shapes and eyes and something beautiful happening. But I want you to be comfortable and not too serious either.

We won’t spend a lifetime on portraits. We’ll actually likely have a really short window so it’s about how we use those 15 minutes. Worrying if we remembered to give someone the ā€œinsert wedding day thingy hereā€ or leaning into whatever might happen for the next few minutes. I know what’s gonna yield better results so if there’s trust there, we can do something really lovely in just a (really lovely) few minutes.

Let’s chat about it though. If you’re feeling in any way apprehensive we could even do a test run. There’s so much more time available for those and a beaut of a way to get used to me too.

Main takeaway is it’s not all that’s serious: basically nothing to worry about. And sure wait til you see the photos you end up with.

Are we printing our photos? I don’t think we are.

That’s a nod to a Girls reference there, should ye not be aware.

Spent yesterday going through a beautiful big wooden box of photos in my Grandads to take home and scan. I hadn’t managed to look through them in a few years and even then, I hadn’t time to look through them all.

I’d love to keep them as they are though. The different sizes and papers over decades are beautiful. Also have my Nanny & Grandad’s wedding album from 1962. I can do something with that: scan & maybe do a video. Not tonnes of photos in there but they’re gorgeous none the less. One of my Nanny walking through the church doors I just love.

It’s so lovely to see photos of my Daddy over the course of his life til the mid 90s. Makes me very ashamed to not have much of my own personal photos printed. Imagine your loved ones coming across this treasure in years to come.

My grandparents were so very glamorous and my Daddy the most handsome man.
