🌿 A little behind the scenes update 🌿
I thought it was time to share a little update with you all, as I know many of you have been wondering how things are going.
Yesterday I had my 7th weekly chemotherapy treatment. The first five treatments were manageable, but since then it’s been a much tougher journey. I’ve had two hospital admissions, one chemotherapy session had to be cancelled, and now my oncology team have reduced my chemotherapy dose to help my body cope with the side effects.
It’s been an emotional decision because, like anyone going through treatment, you always want to feel you’re doing everything possible. My consultant has reassured me that this is the right thing to do, and we’ll keep reviewing everything each week.
One of the biggest challenges I’m facing now is neuropathy. My hands are becoming increasingly numb and weak, and for someone whose career depends on delicate craftsmanship, that’s incredibly frightening.
Many of you know every Luna Creations piece is handmade by me, from carefully preserving your flowers to sanding, polishing and finishing every keepsake by hand. Those finishing stages involve heavy equipment and require precision. Lately I’ve been dropping things more often, struggling to grip tools and finding everyday tasks like cooking and carrying things much harder than they used to be.
I’ve always wanted to be the one making every single piece myself, so accepting help has been difficult. Matt is now starting to learn parts of the process so he can support me where needed while I concentrate on the skilled work that only I can do. It’s not how I imagined this year, but it means Luna Creations can keep moving forward.
Despite everything, I’m not giving up.
When I’m well enough, I’m still working quietly behind the scenes. While my body won’t let me work at the pace I used to, I’ve been using the time to improve other areas of the business.
🌻 Updating my website.
🌻 Working on new marketing ideas.
🌻 Designing new brochures and business cards.
🌻 Planning for the future of Luna Creations.
It’s heartbreaking because I had so many plans for this year, and cancer has forced me to press pause on so many of them. But instead of standing still completely, I’m trying to use this season to build stronger foundations for when I’m able to return properly.
There have been positives too.
A couple of weeks ago I lost 3.3 kg in just one week, which was worrying. Since then, with lots of home, cooked food and determination, I’ve managed to gain weight again. It’s only around a pound so far, but I’ll happily celebrate every little victory.
My garden has become my therapy. My pumpkins are growing beautifully, my vegetables are thriving, and this weekend our incubator goes into lockdown ready for the chicks to (hopefully!) hatch. Those little moments remind me that growth still happens, even when life feels like it’s standing still.
To every single customer who has waited patiently, sent kind messages, recommended my work, placed an order, or simply continued to support my little business…
Thank you.
Your kindness has helped carry me through some incredibly difficult days, and I honestly don’t think you’ll ever know how much it means.
Luna Creations may be moving more slowly than usual right now, but every keepsake is still being created with the same love, care and attention that it always has been.
One little step at a time. 💚🌿✨
