From Shredded Hands to Substack Sanctuary
Hi everyone! I know I've been quiet over the past few months. My time hasn't been spent trying to keep up with the 'Instaglam' fakery of social media—it's been spent teaching floristry courses to amazing students of all ages.

The incredible feedback and joy from those courses convinced me of something: my thirty years of expertise is best used to teach you the real skills, not to chase the algorithm.
The Pivot and name change: Why Now?

This pivot has taken on a new urgency because I have an exceptionally busy Christmas looming ahead. I anticipate working in the freezing cold, with shredded wreath-making hands. The back breaking work of lugging heavy buckets plus endless cutting of foliage means that this menopausal body and brain are going to take a beating !

It's time therefore to take a moment and build a path to a more sustainable future. My goal is simple: I need to pivot direction so that next Christmas, I'm teaching in the warm, not freezing in the workshop.

This is why I’m starting to record my new online courses (whilst still fighting with my new Gimbal) and why Substack will be the perfect vehicle to do so.

I've had a YouTube channel for years, and whilst subscribers have grown organically Substack is far better. It perfectly aligns with my principles—it’s honest, down-to-earth, wordy, and supports my more blog-style content. It’s the retro sanctuary where we focus on value for learning, not vanity for likes.

Whilst I am building my courses, I'm looking to start a free, monthly series to work towards to paid content for a small monthly fee to build a club and community of shared interests and learning - so please join me for the real story, the real skills, and the quiet pursuit of attainable beauty!

Here is my Substack account—I would love you to join and follow me here as we as share to those you may think will be interested.

Pop Up Workshop Reality Check: Teasels stuck in the hair and the Joy of “Un-staged” Flowers

Most workshops advertised on “Insta’glam” are shrouded in an ethereal glow: gentle hands, backlit silhouettes, producing magnificent masterpieces with predictable outcomes. Our workshop was a complete revolt against that normal.
The behind-the-scenes started with my “special needs car” filled to overflowing. Why, oh why, did I pack those prickly teasels right near my head, they kept on getting stuck in my hair - The ‘Hedgerow Look’ is real people! It’s that messy reality—the muddy hands and unexpected interactions —that I love.

You ladies were fabulous! Every single wreath you created from the foraged hedgerow treasures and my own dried flowers was a unique work of art. No staged tables, no predictable outcomes, and absolutely no need for flawless perfection. I was inspired by your creativity as much as you were by me.

This is the essence of Jenni Wren Flowers: we take the pretence away and give you the tools of the trade. We embrace the Reality-Led Design principles that let nature dictate the lines—using the wild edges and the inherent wonkiness of foraged stems to create something extraordinary.

We are here for the value of learning and growth, not just the likes and clicks. Because honestly, the only way to leave a workshop feeling truly fabulous is knowing you created something real, authentic, and completely You!

From garden glory to vase splendour…

The lilac in my garden has never been this good. Every branch is heavy with bloom, and it’s not just fabulous outdoors—it’s just as gorgeous gracing a vase indoors.

Top lilac tips for cut flower success:
• Harvest just as the lowest florets begin to open.
• Strip off every single leaf (they’re greedy drinkers and wilt quickly).
• Give woody stems a long diagonal cut—some recommend gently crushing the ends to help them drink better.
• Straight into deep, cool water, and let them rest somewhere shaded for a few hours to condition.

And then? Let that soft cloud of lilac scent infuse your room, just as it’s doing in mine. Why not give it a try?🥰💐🤩

This house has been standing since the 1700’s —once the farmhouse of Faringdon, now my home. And in the garden, two apple trees that have probably been here just as long. One for cooking, one for eating.

I often wonder who else has stood under these branches, looking up through the same pink froth of petals, feeling the same quiet awe. How many children picked apples here? How many apple tarts were baked in the old kitchen.

Now, centuries later, I still gather from them. A few sprigs made it into today’s Easter hand-tied bouquet and on Tuesday, some will be part of a funeral spray for a customer honouring her mother.

There’s something deeply moving about using these old trees—woven into the fabric of this place—in flowers that speak of love, memory, and legacy both in the past and for the future.
