Today marks the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, the largest seaborne invasion in world history.

The Normandy invasion occurred on June 6th, 1944. This operation sparked the liberation of N**i -occupied France and laid the foundations for an Allied victory. This victory came at the horrific cost of 4,414 Allied soldiers, making it one of the most deadly battles in world history.

Explore some of the rarest Bomb Disposal and EOD equipment, learn about the vital role these units played, and meet Lieutenant Palmer of the Royal Engineers, circa 1940, who will be sharing stories from the front line—including a few infamous "Stupid Grandad" tales involving real bombs!

Discover why it's important to identify but never touch suspicious items, then test your nerves by taking on our ever-popular bomb-defusing challenge, "Big Bertha." You probably won't succeed, but you'll have great fun trying—and earn yourself a badge!

🔥 Heroes With Grimy Faces 🔥

The Heroes With Grimy Faces Group takes its name from a term coined by Winston Churchill to honour the courageous Firemen and Firewomen, both Regular and Auxiliary, who battled devastating blazes amidst falling bombs and debris during the Blitz.

Our mission is to preserve the history, legacy, and sacrifice of these remarkable men and women through the restoration and display of period fire appliances, equipment, and uniforms spanning the pre-war Regular Fire Brigades, the Auxiliary Fire Service, and the National Fire Service.

Our group also commemorates the vital role played by British firefighters beyond our shores. Some of our members portray The Overseas Contingent, who served alongside General Omar Bradley’s 12th Army Group in Europe following D-Day. Others represent the Army Fire Service FFW – often known as “Monty’s Firemen” – who landed in Normandy on D-Day +2 to support the Allied advance.

Join us as we honour the bravery, dedication, and often-overlooked contribution of these wartime heroes, ensuring their stories continue to be remembered by future generations.

💃🕺 Get Ready to Jive at Salute! 🕺💃

We're delighted to welcome Chris & Steve from Air Raid Jive to Salute!

Having danced together since 2007, and running their own successful Swing Jive classes since 2015, these two know how to get a crowd moving. Their dancing adventures have included TV appearances, film work, and even performing at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Throughout the weekend, Chris & Steve will be in the Marquee twice each day, leading fun Swing Jive taster sessions, social dances, and strolls. No experience is needed – just bring yourself, a smile, and a willingness to have a go.

So whether you're a seasoned dancer or have two left feet, come along and join the fun. You never know – you might discover your new favourite hobby!
