“YOU’RE FUNNY!”

That’s what one of the children shouted at me during Fridays show.

My reply?

“Thank you… because it’s all I’ve got!” 😂

Yesterday I had the pleasure of performing a Graduation Magic Show at Footsteps Nursery in Workington, Cumbria.

A lot of nurseries held their graduation celebrations back in July.

But this was the real final day some of these preschoolers could attend nursery before heading off to big school next week.

So 90 minutes of magic, games and disco fun felt like a pretty wonderful way to say goodbye. 🎩✨

What impressed me most, though, was the team.

Throughout the whole show they encouraged the children, joined in and demonstrated exactly how to be a brilliant audience.

That kind of support makes such a difference to how confident and involved the children become.

A lovely atmosphere.

A lovely send-off.

And a brilliant final memory before their next big adventure begins. 🎓

ONE LAST BIT OF SUMMER MAGIC BEFORE SCHOOL RETURNS! 🎩✨

At the beginning of the summer, I visited Rainbows Out of School Club at Flowery Fields Primary School to run a Magic Workshop.

Then I broke my foot, ended up in plaster and had to cancel my next visit. 🤦‍♂️

But I wasn’t letting the summer finish like that.

So in their final week before school returns, I hobbled back in to perform a fun, interactive Magic Show packed with laughs, participation and plenty of surprises.

For holiday clubs, it’s a ready-made activity that keeps the children engaged while giving the team something different without extra planning.

And I’ll be back in October half term with my Science of Magic Show — the one I was originally supposed to perform while my foot was in plaster! 🔬🪄

AND JUST LIKE THAT… CRAZY COLIN IS BACK! 🎩✨

This afternoon I performed my first show back, visiting Funky Monkeys Holiday Club in Widnes for a Crazy Colin Magic Show and Workshop.

Rather than doing a show and then a separate workshop, the two were merged together throughout.

So one minute the children were watching the magic…

The next, they were learning how to make some of it happen themselves.

That mix works brilliantly for holiday clubs because it keeps everyone involved, gives the older children something to get their teeth into, and still keeps all the fun, silliness and audience participation of the show.

And after being away from performing for a little while, it felt GOOD to be back.

A huge thank you to everyone at Funky Monkeys for such a brilliant welcome.

First show back: DONE. ✅

The magic box is officially open again.

The show must go on! 🎩

ONE LAST MAGICAL CELEBRATION BEFORE BIG SCHOOL! 🎓

Today, I had the pleasure of performing my Graduation Magic Show at the Leavers Celebration for First Steps Nursery in Bury.

The show wasn’t only for the children getting ready to leave nursery.

Their younger and older brothers and sisters joined in too, which made it feel like a proper family celebration.

What a brilliant group of children.

They laughed, shouted, helped with the magic and threw themselves into every part of the show.

Then, once the magic was over, we finished with a Crazy Colin Mini Disco.

The children were up dancing, the parents joined in too, and it became a brilliant way for everyone to celebrate together.

Before I packed everything away, every child I could find received a Crazy Colin sticker to take home. I hope I didn’t miss anyone!

It was a lovely way to mark such a big moment for the leavers while making sure the whole family felt part of the fun.

(The image is AI-generated, as I don’t take photographs while children are in the room.)

Thank you to everyone at First Steps Nursery for making me feel so welcome.

And to all the leavers…

Best of luck at big school. You’re going to be amazing!

AUGUST HAS ARRIVED… WHICH MEANS THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS ARE NOW IN FULL SWING!

For children, that means adventures, days out and six glorious weeks away from school.

For the grown-ups, it can also mean hearing:

“What are we doing today?”

“Are we there yet?”

And the traditional summer favourite…

“I’m bored!”

Thankfully, Crazy Colin is spending August bringing magic, comedy and plenty of silliness to children across the country.

From holiday clubs and nurseries to family events, birthday parties, pubs, community venues and summer celebrations, every show is adapted for the children in front of me.

Sometimes that means colourful visual magic for younger audiences.

Sometimes it means bigger challenges, brilliant banter and workshop tricks for older children.

And sometimes it means Dizzee the Dog appearing and completely ignoring every carefully prepared plan.

Because he usually does.

There are still a few spaces available for summer holiday events, so send me a message if your venue, club or organisation needs some Crazy Colin magic this August.

Let’s make sure “I’m bored” disappears faster than one of my handkerchiefs.

“WILL THE OLDER CHILDREN THINK IT’S TOO YOUNG FOR THEM?”

It is one of the most common concerns when booking entertainment for a holiday club.

Especially when the group includes children aged four, five and six…

Alongside children aged ten, eleven and twelve.

The answer is all in how the show is built.

The younger children love the colourful, visual magic, the silliness and the chance to shout out.

The older children enjoy the banter, the mind games and being given something more challenging to get involved with.

Sometimes I even teach everyone a magic trick they can perform themselves.

That immediately gives the older children something to master.

Then, just as they are feeling very grown-up and sophisticated…

Dizzee the Dog arrives and causes complete chaos.

And somehow, everyone is laughing together.

A good children’s show should never feel like it has been designed for only one age.

It should bring the whole group together.

That is exactly what Crazy Colin holiday club shows are designed to do.

THE BEST PART OF MY JOB ISN’T THE MAGIC…

People often assume it’s fooling an audience with an impossible trick.

And don’t get me wrong, I love hearing the gasps and the applause.

But my favourite moment is something completely different.

It’s when a child goes from saying…

“I can’t do it.”

To…

“LOOK! I DID IT!”

That’s why I love including Magic Workshops alongside my shows.

Watching children discover that they can learn a new skill, practise it, and then perform it with confidence is every bit as magical as the tricks themselves.

They don’t just leave having watched a magician.

They leave feeling like one.

Whether it’s a birthday party, holiday club, school, library or family event, giving children something they can take home and amaze their family with makes the day even more memorable.

Sometimes the greatest magic isn’t what happens in my hands.

It’s what happens in theirs.
