Life gets very hectic , moments like the silence on the 11th day of the 11th month really do bring home what really matters , everyone should have the opportunity to live a life free from war

So I've been quiet on social media for a week or so as I've been away in Spain for half term. 10 days, 4 airports and over 500km driven but the wonderful part for me is I'm able to work remotely. Yes I can't actually carry out a ceremony remotely but there is lots I can be doing with my remaining couples of 2025 whilst on my holidays such as script writing, arranging meetings and brainstorming ideas.

Fancy chucking a quid my way ? In my work as Corinne Firth-Surkitt - Funeral Celebrant I have the honour of telling the stories of special babies who will be part of their families story forever , lots of those families are supported by charities such as Friends of Serenity so it felt right for me to support them

Wedding "season" , is there such a thing ?

Well it's yes and no for me I reckon

Are there times that the traditional wedding venues sell out first - yup !

Is there an ideal season to get married .... then OK yup again, the ideal season is the one that suits your circumstances.
Is there a season you shouldn't get married ... then nope , because your wedding should be your way !

So here's my PA this morning helping me work on Ceremonies that are coming up for late autumn and early winter , which is for those couples the perfect season

Being self employed means things are a bit of a juggle , between the wedding side and Corinne Firth-Surkitt - Funeral Celebrant , it means I am often pulled in different directions, but on Friday the boy had an inset day ...and I didn't have any bookings, and I had an itchy passport ... so we did an extreme day trip to Dublin , early flight out, late flight back. New memories banked for the future.

I mean I like to think I create some pretty awesome moments in my Ceremonies but totally on board that they are all totally out classed by a double kit kat drop !

So often the photos I share on my work page are either a smiley selfie or me "in action" at a ceremony. Today some a little different. I love to shout out local businesses and these are me with my concentration face on at The Crafty Potter at Heskin Hall Shopping Village , strange to see myself in a quiet moment.
My job is very creative of course but I do enjoy crafting and creating things in the tiny bits of down time I get.

So last weekend when I went Alnwick Castle and Gardens and saw the splendour of the castle and imagined what it would be like to be a princess .. I also sat on a step at the beach that night and ate chips .... its about balance isn't it πŸ˜€

So next year I'm adding to my wish list for Ceremonies, a castle and a beach , also my usual wish list of plenty of pets, farm animals, maybe a zoo, some huge ones, some intimate ones, a few garden ones, maybe a nightclub, some themes and fancy dress , some sporting ones, some on my doorstep and some far away ....let's face it, I'm just a sucker for weddings , whenever, wherever

This is the news Humanist Ceremonies accredited Celebrants have long been working towards. Finally we have the commitment that I will be allowed to legally marry people , no date yet but for today I'm taking this positive step

After more than a decade of campaigning, the UK Government has finally publicly committed to the legal recognition of humanist marriages in England and Wales.

This is a monumental breakthrough, a victory we have been working towards for many decades, and it represents a fundamental acceptance of what we all know to be true: that humanist marriages are as valid, as meaningful, and as deserving of recognition as any other. This moment belongs to every one of us, and most importantly, to the thousands of couples whose ceremonies have so powerfully made the case for us. Thank you for that!

Although this is a huge step forward, we are not quite over the finish line. The Government has indicated that legal recognition will come as part of a wider package of marriage reform, which will involve a further consultation to launch in the new year.

We are calling on the Government to do what is simple, fair, and right: to use its existing powers to grant interim legal recognition immediately, just as it has done for other forms of marriage in the past. If, as we fear, this does not occur, then we will continue to engage.

For today, however, let’s celebrate this landmark achievement! It is a testament to our shared values and our collective perseverance and the day when couples can have a humanist wedding that is legally recognised in its own right is no longer a distant dream, but firmly on the horizon.

Me and him indoors went to Alnwick Castle and Gardens this weekend and I was rather taken by these little books in the bookshop so I bought them to see what tips I could take from them. I wonder if I will be passing any on to my upcoming couples πŸ€”
