"Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change"

This is the message behind this years World Mental Health Day. It's also something that we try and encompass in our SSBS event. The charities we support, are all about people - offering support, education, safe spaces and most importantly, a listening ear.

By supporting us, you are supporting them, making real change.

It's fab-U-lous to have you on board Nicholas 🕺🕺

Meet Nicholas, one of our fab volunteers, who is bravely taking to the dance floor for us in this year’s Strictlystepbystep event!

Here’s Nicholas on why he decided to take part:

“Five days into retirement, and I’ve traded my keyboard for dance shoes! Signing up for Strictly Step-by-Step is easily the most exhilarating and terrifying thing I’ve done in years.

Coming from a background in software development, my brain is used to logic, not choreography. While I love the free flow of 5 Rhythms, learning a structured Latin dance like the Cha-Cha-Cha - especially with my terrible muscle memory - is going to be a massive mountain to climb.

This is about serving our Darlington community, supporting a brilliant mental health charity, and embracing the vulnerability of learning something completely fresh. I’m nervous, I’m thrilled, and I can’t wait to give it everything I’ve got.”

We’re so pleased to have Nicholas taking on the challenge and we can’t wait to follow his journey.

We love a good raffle here at SSBS HQ. We love involving local businesses even more.

So if you are a local business (or individual), and would like to donate a raffle prize for this years event, please get in touch. Whether it be a candle set, a voucher, a hamper etc - ALL donations welcome

Tickets are now on sale for our 2026 Strictly Step-by-Step event.

As this is an afternoon/evening performance, we anticpate there may be younger people who would like to come along, so with that in mind, Adult tickets (over 18) are £25, and childrens tickets are £15.

The minimum recommended age is 13 years and all under 18's must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

For those of you who will be joining us for this extravaganza for the first time, your ticket includes a drink on arrival (soft drink for under 18) and a full afternoon and evening of entertainment.

Proceeds from the event are split between our charities.

We will be holding a raffle at the event - more details to follow....

Although the nature of the event is dancing, the purpose is to raise awareness of the support available if you, or anyone you know, is struggling with their mental health and also sucide prevention; the underlying message can be very emotive - please be aware of this.
