WINNERS
✨ So proud to celebrate this year’s winners in the categories closest to my heart: ✨
🏆 Independent Dressmaker / Designer – WINNER

🏆 Seamstress or Tailor – WINNER
🧵 The Wedding Dress Surgeon
I’m honestly so thrilled with how this year’s awards have gone, and so deeply honoured to have been a judge in both the Independent Dressmaker/Designer category and the Seamstress or Tailor category.
After so many years of being on the other side — as a regional winner and national finalist — being part of the judging panel now feels incredibly full-circle. Humbling, emotional… and genuinely a real privilege.
I’m also unbelievably proud that these two categories now exist and are properly recognised. Seeing Independent Dressmakers and Bridal Alterations Specialists / Seamstresses celebrated in their own right really matters.
Because bespoke dressmaking is an art.
And bridal alterations is not “just taking it up” — it’s technical, skilled, problem-solving, trust-holding work that can absolutely make or break a bride’s experience. These women carry huge responsibility, and they deserve their moment in the spotlight.
Huge thanks to my wonderful fellow judges.
On the Seamstress / Tailor panel: Abigail Westrup, Elisa Pelcova and Mikayla Emery.
On the Independent Dressmaker / Designer panel: Charlotte Wilden, Kate Walker, Lynsey Beardsmore, Sarah Treble and Sassi Holford.
Such an honour to sit alongside you all.
Very proud. Very grateful. Very happy. 🥂🪡👗

Being part of the judging process in these two categories has honestly been such a privilege. The standard of work, care, and craftsmanship from independent dressmakers and bridal seamstresses is extraordinary, and it deserves to be seen and celebrated.
These results sit on top of months of work, fittings, late nights, emotional brides, technical problem-solving, and so much unseen labour. Highly Commended in these categories genuinely means something.
To everyone who entered, everyone who made finals, and everyone who keeps showing up for their brides with needles, pins, steamers and calm words — I see you. And I’m so glad the industry is seeing you too.
Very proud of our industry. 🪡👗

Have a fabulous evening at the National Awards , I can't be there tonight.
I will be watching avidly from Lanzarote !
( and no, even as judge in both categories I do not know the winner as we vote independently as a small team and our scores are combined.

Yep. It’s me again.
With sleeves.
And flowers.
And ivory satin and tulle that refuses to be boring!
Soft blush florals, sheer floaty sleeves, and texture doing what texture does best.
Because apparently I will never stop putting things on top of ivory instead of leaving it alone.
Who says bridal ivory has to be sensible?
Or flat?
Or flowerless?
(Also: sleeves forever.)

Ps this is also seperates that can be worn individually.

Also its under 2k

05/01/2026

Yep.
It’s me again.
With sleeves.
And capes.
And flowers.
And lace that refuses to behave.
Apparently I will never accept that bridal ivory should be flat, quiet, or left alone.
If it’s ivory, it’s getting florals.
If it’s sheer, it’s floating.
If there’s an opportunity for drama… I’m taking it.
Big frocks.
Big texture.
Big Stevie Nicks energy.
And for the record —
Pantone, Cloud Dancer 2026 needs flowers.
Clouds. Need. Flowers.
Always.

Daily Dress Inspiration ✨
Evening Dress — House of Worth, c. 1882
This evening dress dates to around 1882 and was created by the House of Worth, the pioneering Paris fashion house founded by Charles Frederick Worth.
Worth was born in England and began his career working for textile merchants in London, where he developed a deep understanding of fabrics alongside a strong interest in art and historical dress. In 1846 he moved to Paris, initially working as a salesman and dressmaker, before founding Worth & Bobergh in 1858. The house quickly gained the patronage of European royalty and elite society. After 1870, Worth became sole proprietor, and the business operated under his name.
What sets Worth apart — and why he is widely regarded as the father of haute couture — is his revolutionary approach to dressmaking. Rather than working purely to client instruction, he created complete designs in advance, presenting them on live models. Clients selected designs and then had them adapted to their preferences. This designer-led model fundamentally reshaped fashion.
Worth’s gowns are notable for their painterly use of colour, rich textures, and the generous volumes of fabric employed — a reflection of both his artistic vision and his close ties to the textile industry. His work remained highly influential throughout his lifetime, and the House of Worth continued under the direction of his descendants well into the twentieth century.
For me, Worth’s legacy is a reminder that great design begins with fabric, proportion, and confidence of vision — principles that still matter just as much in modern bridal design.

Daily Dress Inspiration ✨
Late Victorian Presentation Dress by Elise, c. 1890
One of the things I love most about historic dress is how intentional it is.
This presentation gown, made around 1890 by the dressmaking house Elise and now held in the collection of the Kyoto Costume Institute, sits right at that fascinating moment when Victorian fashion began to soften. The bustle had eased, lines became more fluid, and elegance came as much from movement as from structure.
Designed for formal presentation and ceremonial wear, the silhouette is confident and controlled — a corseted bodice balanced by a skirt that flows into a measured train. It’s grand without being showy, decorative without excess, and absolutely rooted in purpose.
For me, this is a reminder that beauty in bridal (then and now) isn’t about trend — it’s about craft, intention, and how a garment makes its wearer feel as they move through the world.
