Sunday Morning Tunes #2

It’s the Room’s turn this week and with no videos (yet) from ‘Doom Pop’) instead here’s the lead single from last album ‘The Telling’.

With its focus on the glorious keyboard hook, ‘The Teller’ marked an opening out of this incarnation’s sound, moving into something more widescreen than ‘Restless Fate’

Tickets for the Room’s show with the Cathode Ray can be bought in advance here:

Between now and the show on 9th October, I'll be sharing music from both the The Cathode Ray and the The Room.

I'm going to start with the most recent from the hometown band. Jeremy Thoms and co released a standalone single 'Forever Etched' towards the tail end of last year and it's a beauty. Kt will probably end up on teh band's fifth album in due course but you can enjoy the video filmed by Suzie Mack and created and edited by Robin Thoms now!

Excited to announce that my next promotion will be a co-headline show featuring post-punk veterans from Edinburgh and Liverpool - the Cathode Ray and the Room, respectively on Friday 9th October 2026 at the Wee Red Bar, Edinburgh.

The Room will be promoting 'Doom Pop', their third album since reforming whilst the Cathode Ray continue to work towards their fifth long-player on the back of excellent single 'Forever Etched'.

More details to follow shortly, but in the meantime, please note the date in your diary.

That went pretty well, didn't it?

I'm delighted with the way the show turned out - three great acts, a healthy and enthusiastic audience and a space that was the perfect size for the show. As a consequence, I was delighted to be able to pay the acts a little more than we'd agreed beforehand.

Thanks to Martin, Adam and Robert not only for the brilliant sets but also for enthusiastically pushing the show. And I'm very grateful to anyone else (including Shaun from Gargleblast) who shared the show on any platform - it really helps to spread the word.

Thanks to Niamh from Home Bar for being so helpful and making the acts sound great.

And, of course thanks to everyone who turned out - audiences make these shows so if you were there then you're an essential part of the reason it went so well.

And finally, thanks to Yvonne for putting up with another go at promoting shows.

What's next? Hopefully there was a clue in the event playlist ...
