Officiating at funeral services has changed significantly now that the mourners have to wear masks because of Covid 19. I’ve always been able to see their expressions but not at the moment. It’s important for everyone to stay safe and I’m grateful that all the attendees are doing their best to abide by the rules of PPE and social distancing.

I’ve had the honour over the years of taking funeral services for motorcycle enthusiasts who have passed away. I’ve now dusted off my leathers and taken up biking again so I may get the opportunity to do so again if the sad occasion arises. Here’s a picture of my current machine.

I recently officiated at a service for a Nomadic family based in Leicestershire. It was an honour to be the minister as this was the second time I’ve done a funeral for this family. I always embrace these kinds of opportunities as it’s a way of learning a little about others culture. It’s one of the advantages of being an Independent Celebrant.

It’s s well known fact that funeral costs have rocketed in recent years. Even celebrants have increased their fees. But not me. In fact I’ve lowered them.

The average independent Celebrant fee is £175.00 per service. Some even charge up to £200.00.

My service fees are from only £75.00. That’s quite an amount off the overall cost of a funeral service.

Why are my prices so low? Well, I recognise that as money is tight these days with low pay and rising costs people are generally struggling to make ends meet. The last thing anyone would need is to face extra financial burdens when there is a funeral that they have to pay for. Therefore, realising this I have found a way to minimise my costs and at the same time offer the best service.

My name is Will Chandler and I’m a Celebrant/Minister for funerals in the North Norfolk area. I used to be a full time Baptist Church Minister and graduated from theological college in 1997. In 2009 I became independent and began my own Funeral Celebrant Service in the East Midlands. In 2014 I moved to Norfolk and have slowly developed my Celebrant/Minister service although I currently still travel back to the East Midlands on occasions when requested by families that I’ve done funerals for previously.

As a Celebrant I have no religious conviction or persuasion when it comes to doing a funeral service. I’m happy to do services that include some religious content if required or none at all. Each service is tailor made to individual requirements and done with dignity and respect.

I have over 20 years’ experience of funeral services and am confident in applying that experience to give the very best that is required at such a sensitive time. I also understand bereavement having lost both of my parents and also having to assist many people through the grieving process.
I’d like to think that the personal touch that I apply to each funeral service goes a long way to bring comfort to those bereft of their loved ones.

When someone dies and a funeral director is given the task of arranging the service it is usually at this point that a Minister or Celebrant is appointed. You will be asked if you have someone in mind to do the service. At this juncture you could point them to me by giving them my name, Will Chandler and my telephone number, which is 07780664808. They will inform me of the time, date and location of the funeral and check my availability. Once this has been settled the funeral director will give to me your contact details and I will get in touch to arrange a suitable time for us to meet so that we can make the service arrangements. Other family members and/or close friends are welcome to join in with the meeting.

Every minister/celebrant has fees that are paid direct through the funeral director. I am always pleased to offer competitive rates and currently have the lowest fees in Norfolk. I do this because I realise that in these days arranging funerals can be expensive and so I try to ease the burden a little by charging lower prices. However, this does not mean you’d get any less of a service. Families who I’ve done funerals for will tell of my 100% commitment to give the best to each service I do.
