What’s with all this rain?? I really thought summer was here……still it allows for some sewing time 🤣

If you’d like some good uninterrupted sewing time, either working on your own projects or taking a workshop and learning/trying something new then how about coming to our next retreat in July.

With holidays, Easter, birthdays, etc, I’m afraid I don’t have time to post teasers, so you’re seeing it all at once and hopefully you’ll be able to decide between all the fabulous classes on offer, before the booking form arrives in your emails. Here's your 1st class for the April retreat...

Bearmaking with Helen Smith

I’m delighted that Helen will be repeating her very popular workshop. Already known for her lovely Quick and Easy workshops at Festival of Quilts she is well known to lots of KOS attendees as she’s a regular at KOS weekends. What you may not know is that she has a successful business making Memory Bears, Dolls, Quilts etc, and this weekend she’ll share her Bear making techniques.

It’s true to say that many a stuffed toy is spoiled by people not knowing quite how to ‘stuff’ properly or how to shape the features accurately (even though a wonky eyed bear may look cute...) so this weekend you’ll learn the ‘how to’ and avoid the ‘how not to’!!

Using a bespoke pattern, Helen will help you to make your very own ‘proper’ bear – approx. 18” tall complete with moveable joints - whether it’s in memory of a loved one or for a new family member - or indeed just because you fancy making your own bear to sit on a shelf or to cuddle!! All parts and gizmos for the jointed bears below will be supplied as a kit for approx. £35 - payable to Helen at the weekend (less than you would pay if you bought everything yourself individually!). This includes some very special stabilizer, stuffing, joints, bead weights and eyes for you to give your bear that professional finish.

On your requirements list, Helen will advise which fabrics are most suitable and where you can purchase them, such as the boucle and cuddle fleece used on her lovely bears below. Helen will also bring a pattern for a smaller non-jointed Memory Bear, like the blue bear because you may have time to make one like him too...

Also, I’m aware we’ve had lots of new members recently and just want to make sure that you’ve emailed Pam to be on the mailing list, so you don’t miss any of the news on future retreats. Even if you’re not coming to this next one, if you’re not on the mailing list then you may miss out on future retreats, so get those emails sent to Pam to get on the mailing list 😁

Latest news from Pam… she has been on the phone with BT and they are hoping to have it sorted by Monday. I will let you know on Monday, if it’s been sorted and when the emails have been sent xx

UPDATE: No emails have gone out yet, so don't panic!!!!! BT are trying to sort out why Pam can't send emails at the mo, it may take another day or two, because they can't find the problem. We are currently trying to set up a new email address to avoid any problems in the future, but as you can appreciate, copying over the mailing list of email addresses will take time. I will announce on here when it's sorted and when the emails have been sent, so no one will miss out - Pam is very sorry but at the mercy of BT and random changes they have been making xx


Just to let you know, Pam is in the process of sending out emails, but BT have been making some changes recently and she's having problems sending them all together. You should all receive your email within the next 24 hours, please don't panic if a friend has got their email and you haven't received yours - it will arrive.
