A lot of schools are closing early, or closing entirely over the next couple of days, and you and / or your children may be looking to cool off in your local lake or river

⚠️ Just remember the water safety code: if you get into trouble, stay calm, float on your back and call for help.

Cold water shock can happen to anyone, even on a warm day. Your instinct might be to panic, but the best thing you can do is float.

🛟 Tilt your head back and keep your airway clear
🫁 Relax and focus on your breathing
🌊 Spread your arms and legs to stay balanced
🤲 Gently move your hands if needed
📞 Once calm, signal for help or swim to safety

If someone else is in trouble, don’t go in. Throw them something that floats.

🔥 Hot Weather Workout Reminder 🔥

General group exercise classes remain on unless otherwise informed, but with temperatures on the rise, it’s important to stay safe while staying active! 💪☀️

✅ Exercise early morning or later evening to avoid peak heat if you can
✅ Stay hydrated – drink water before, during, and after your workout
✅ Dial it back – reduce intensity if you feel fatigued or dizzy
✅ Wear light, breathable clothing
✅ Listen to your body – it’s okay to rest when it’s too hot

⚠️ Signs of heat exhaustion include dizziness, nausea, headache, or excessive sweating. If this happens, stop immediately, cool down, and hydrate.

Your health comes first—there’s no harm in swapping a workout for a walk, stretch, or rest day in extreme heat. Stay smart and stay safe! 💙

With the hot weather incoming this week stay hydrated, keep cool and if you’re in the sun, get your sunscreen on!

To keep your house as cool as possible;

1) keep windows and curtains or shades closed during the day
2) open them at night when it’s cooler
3) if you have a fan at home, place it by a window facing inwards to circulate fresh air

The UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber heat health alert for parts of England until 8pm on Tuesday 23 June.

Most of us like to get out and enjoy the sunshine, but ending up in our Emergency Department suffering from the effects of heat is the last place you’ll want to be.

Beat the heat:
🥤Keep hydrated with plenty of cold drinks throughout the day
🧴👒👕Wear sunscreen, a hat and light, breathable clothes outside
🏠🌳Stay indoors in a cool space, or in the shade if you’re outdoors, during the hottest part of the day (11am–3pm)

And don’t forget to check in with older and vulnerable people to make sure they are keeping cool and staying hydrated.
