I wouldn’t normally book a wedding this late in the season but, I’m a total sucker for a rich autumnal colour palette 🤤 and Caitlin has been the sweetest bride to work with 🥰

I just love autumn colours so much!! 🍁🍂

P.s. I love chrysanthemums way more than dahlias but, shh don’t tell anyone 🤫

It’s funny how the human brain works. I look at these photos and immediately see the faults - the weeds that haven’t been pulled yet, the plants that have died in the drought, the rabbit burrow in one of the beds… but there is so much in these photos to be proud of! We’re definitely getting there!

An absolute whopper!

This was the biggest bouquet I’ve ever made (actually made up of 3 bouquets tied together), containing everything I love about May 🥰 it was a birthday gift for my farmer landlord’s wife so, it felt very fitting that it contained the first flowers from the field ☺️

I decided that this deserves a permanent place on the grid…

Today I cut the very first bucket of flowers from the field. It has taken a long time and an awful lot of hard work to get to this point. We are nowhere near finished, there are already weeds everywhere (I think thistles are quickly becoming my least favourite plant), quite a lot of plants have already died (there really just aren’t enough hours in the day to set up a field, look after a baby and keep everything watered during a drought!) BUT we have flowers!!

This season has been pretty brutal so far - deer, rabbits, drought, heatwaves… all while setting up our flower field, still providing flowers for our lovely customers and raising a baby without any help with childcare. It’s very easy to get bogged down in the never ending to-do list and wallow in the difficulties. But then I take a moment to just stop and appreciate the life I’ve created for myself and the beauty I’m surrounded by daily.

Flower farming isn’t for the faint of heart but I feel so grateful to have found my true passion and to be able to call this my job ❤️

The honesty stand has had a bit of a makeover. We will no longer be selling flower bunches from our honesty stand but, it will be stocked with lots of lovely plants for you to fill your gardens with! The selection of plants will change through the season so keep checking back to see what we’ve got on offer 😊

Located at 16 Woodlands Road, Shotley Bridge, the Plant Shack will be open 24/7. Pay by cash or card/PayPal/Apple Pay via our website.

Uncharacteristic weather and wildlife issues (I’m mainly looking at you mr deer 👀) have meant that the season has been slow to start here at Durham Blooms HQ. We’re just starting to have enough flowers to make up bouquet orders and this was a lovely sunny spring bouquet that went out on Monday 🌸

We’ll have some lovely spring jam jars available for Easter next week and will be opening the website up for bouquet orders after that 😊

✨For Kerry + Will✨

I don’t usually do weddings so early in the year but, I couldn’t say no to my brother-in-law and his lovely bride 😊 I used lots of my own lovely foliage & filler and then had a bit of help from and for the focal flowers 🌷

Doing the flowers whilst also being a wedding guest, Doug being the best man and trying to keep Lucy entertained and quiet through the whole thing has made this week pretty hectic! So, today was just about resting and enjoying the sunshine ☺️
