It's a week to go till one of the most talked about and lauded acts to appear on the Scottish music scene in the last 20 years, Blue Rose Code, hit the stage at The Georgian Hotel for 50rpm.

It is our last show before the summer break, and what a way to welcome in the summer.

The wonderful poet & songwriter, Sulidae, will be opening the show, with the legendary Fraser Speirs joining him on harmonica.

Live music matters. Nights like this matter. There are around 10 tickets left for the show. We would love to sell it out. It should be. It deserves to be.

Thank you to Michael Pringle for the article in the Daily Record highlighting how 50rpm's membership model is attracting interest from other community groups looking to find a sustainable and viable way of putting on live music in their communities.

With grassroots venues closing weekly, a disgraceful lack of arts funding and support for venues and artists, and monopolies held by the likes of Live Nation & Ticketmaster, we need to look at different ways of supporting those musicians, artists, promoters and all the others behind the scenes.

Grassroots venues are the lifeblood that feeds the whole music industry and the roots that hold it up.

What a wonderful reaction to our announcement that Ian Prowse will be playing at 50rpm. Over half the tickets sold in a few hours.

Tickets for the show are available at https://wegottickets.com/event/663467.

We had some folk asking questions about the gig, so we thought we would put the info here for everyone...

Is there disabled access? Yes. There is disabled access and disabled toilets.

Is it in the big hall? Yes, the show is in the bigger room at the Georgian Hotel.

Is it seated? Yes. Our gigs are all seated.

Is there free parking? Yes. There is a small car park at the hotel, but there is also plenty of on-street parking right beside the hotel, and it is free.

Is it easy to get to by train? Yes. There are 3 train stations (Blairhill, Kirkwood & Coatbridge Central), all within a short walk, and these go to Glasgow (and beyond on the Queen Street line and also Glasgow Central), Edinburgh (on the Queen St line), Cumbernauld & Motherwell.

Is there accommodation available? There are limited rooms at the Georgian Hotel, but there is lots of accommodation in the local area to suit all budgets.

Any place to eat before the show? Yes. The Georgian Hotel has an excellent restaurant & bar serving lovely food. There are also lots of other restaurants within a short walk.

Hope this helps.

** GIG ANNOUNCEMENT **
Oh yeah. We have been trying for quite a while to get the absolutely amazing Ian Prowse to 50rpm, and now we have. Ian will be joining us on Friday 27th March, and we can't wait.

The Merseyside legend, singer-songwriter, and front man of the iconic band Amsterdam, as well as the former front man of indie cult band Pele, was raised on protest songs, influenced by the Celtic sounds that make Liverpool so unique, and inspired by the songwriting craftsmanship of Paul Weller, Mike Scott, Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello, Ian’s 30-year songwriting career and 100% committed live shows have gathered him a reputation as the ‘Scouse Springsteen’ amongst his devoted fans.

Amsterdam saw success with their first single ‘The Journey’ hitting the UK top 40, but it’s their song ‘Does This Train Stop on Merseyside?’ which reduced John Peel to tears live on Radio 1 because of its connection with Liverpool, the city he loved, as well as being the centerpiece of Irish legends Christy Moore’s No.1 album ‘Listen’.

Pele’s first 3 singles stormed the Radio 1 A-List, with 'Megalomania' reaching No.1 in the South African charts. Ian is fresh off his successful 'Fireworks' 30 Tour with his band Amsterdam, and is enjoying success as the support of choice for Elvis Costello, The Wonder Stuff, The Levellers, and The Blow Monkeys.

It's hard to think of another artist more suited to the whole ethos of 50rpm. It's going to be a belter.

That's sad news. I remember John from when he performed under the name Robinson Reid & with This Way Up. I think I have one of his solo demos somewhere. He knew how to write a hit, that's for sure.

Glasgow born producer DJ and vocalist Reid had a successful career as a songwriter having co-written Tina Turner's 1999 hit-single When the Heartache Is Over.

Lovely night last night with Rob Wheeler & Hughzy at the Drumpellier Golf Club.

It was the first time we have put on a gig in the DGC, and it has a lovely backdrop as we were joined by some deer nibbling grass at the 18th hole, to the mellow sound of a Country chart topping artist.

Our old friend Ben Hughes has lost none of his virtuoso guitar skills since we last saw him, as he played a set that showcased his exceptional songwriting and guitar playing.

Ben joined Rob for his set, switching to electric guitar and providing vocal harmonies.

Rob Wheeler is a star. I think he knows that. If confidence alone is all you need, then he has it in bucket loads, but he can back it up. He has the songs. He has the voice. He has the personality. When he played a new song, No Mans Land, you could have heard a pin drop if it wasn't for grown men wiping a tear from their eye.

With 3 albums under his belt, he has some amazing songs to choose from but it was his newest album, Leave Tomorrow, a No 1 iTunes chart topper no less, that was the focus tonight, and the audience loved it.

With folk travelling all the way from Manchester for this show, I'm sure they would have been smiling all the way back home.

Thanks to everyone who came out and to the staff at DGC for stepping in last minute.
