Looking for something a bit different?
Join us for the upcoming wedding showcase at Churnet Valley

As part of the Churnet Valley Railway “Open House” weekend, you will be able to meet a number of our friendly volunteers from a variety of departments. One such team will be our Civils gang, who oversee the maintenance of our structures across the railway. Whether its one of our large and historic station buildings, or a far simpler boundary fence, they all require upkeep in one form or another.

They tend to focus on one larger project at a time, and having recently completed the repaint of our Victorian era signal boxes they have now moved on to the repair of Consall Platform 2. This attractive cantilevered platform has survived for more than a century, and was fully restored in 2004 enabling 2-train operation to return to the Churnet Valley for the first time since 1965. However since COVID the platform has been out of use, and significant repair work is needed to the wooden framework to bring it back into service – a task that is well within the capabilities of our Civils team given they completed the original restoration. Why not come and see just what is involved, and where you can play a part too?

Our civils team will be at Consall Station to explain their work, and showcase their recent achievements over the weekend of 25 and 26 March. If you want further information about volunteering then details are available on our website < https://www.churnetvalleyrailway.co.uk/events/open-weekend.html >.

🤩NEW VENUE ALERT🤩

Super happy to announce that I will now be working with Fordhall Farm to manage their weddings and events💒
It’s an exciting project with lots to learn myself but I’m really looking forward to it 🎉🎉

A little bit of a wedding related fact I discovered today 👀😱

It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink.
Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon.

I’d defineitly rather a trip somewhere nice than some honey beer 🍯🍺

Welcome to 2022!

Excuse the long post but I am taking time to reflect on my first wedding working day of the year.

What a year I had last year.

A little quiet start to the year 2021 due to lockdown gave me plenty of chance to think about my business and the direction I wanted to take it in. I've always wanted to be more than just a wedding planner and upon thinking about all of postponed and pushed back weddings I started thinking of how I could adapt the business.
I help a lot of couples marrying in tipis and marquees to plan their wedding and this got me thinking.
One of the hardest things can often be finding somewhere to put the tipi or marquee. So I started approaching farmers, land owners and anyone else I could find really to ask if they'd be interested in being one of the places I had on file to let couples know their land was available for hire.
This escalated to finding many farmers actually wanted to host weddings but didn't know where to start and how to do it and so was born. (For those that aren't aware I also own Tangled Events )
I quickly grew my portfolio of venues I was managing and have shown how this can be replicated.
I went and pitched my business at the Santander X entrepreneur awards and luckily winning support and funding will mean that in 2022 I will have the chance to continue growing this aspect of my business.

I still love wedding planning and have an abundance of clients lined up for 2022, 2023 and even some in to 2024 and I am really looking forward to continue helping my clients to plan their perfect day on top of my consulting.

So what else have I got to look forward to in 2022?
- Well I'm in the process on finalising MY BOOK! I will be publishing my own wedding planner full of hints tips and tricks to help people on their wedding planning journey- watch this space.
- We have also just set up Tangled Bars- Mobile Bar for Events which will run lovely alongside the other businesses.
- I'm continuing to work with some amazing venues and looking to grow the portfolio to look after even more.
- We will be taking on lots of new styling clients for balloons, flowers, chair, table and venue decor through Tangled Events as well as buying some new products to hire (most recently a starlit dance floor)
- And did I mention MY OWN WEDDING!

It's going to be a busy year but I look forward to keeping you all updated on the progress and the journey.

Thank you for all your continued support

Joanne Carly

A top tip for your wedding...

Get yourself organised.
You'll have emails coming in from everywhere, endless to do lists and so much to think about.
I love the app Trello and also a good old pen and paper but whatever works for you make sure you use it!

If you need help organising all of your wedding planning then get in touch for some help :)

🎼🎶My love, do you know that your eyes are like stars brightly beaming?

I bring you and sing you a moonlight serenade ❤️

The most gorgeous day at Churnet Valley Railway (1992) PLC for Imogen and Liam yesterday.
The whole day had a lovely classic and vintage feel about it.
Ceremony in the booking office at Cheddleton followed by afternoon tea on our Diana coach whilst being whisked along by a steam engine through the Staffordshire moorlands 👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️

Can you believe it’s been a year since this amazing couple said I Do!

96 hours from phone call to plan their wedding until Jodie walked down the aisle. It was the craziest 4 days of my life but I’m so grateful these two put their faith in me.

Happy Anniversary Ezrin and Jodie 💜
