Our chief audio designer and partner was recently interviewed by DPA Microphones about our N Series wireless and the benefits of DPA mics in tricky acoustic environments.

Had a lot of questions about the sound system recently, so thought we’d share a little more about it.

The system at Pardon Me is built around a Danley Sound Labs setup using Sharc Fins, Cubes and Danley amplification. We originally came across it through a previous bar installation and had heard incredible things about how naturally it worked in that kind of environment.

What drew us to it was the way the system presents music with detail, warmth and control without needing to be pushed hard. There’s a real sense of depth and balance to it, and the coverage stays incredibly consistent across the room, so the listening experience feels the same whether you’re at the front, sat in the corner or leaning against the bar. It sounds especially beautiful with records — loads of texture, space and low-end without losing clarity.

We also wanted the installation side approached properly, which is why we worked with A-Live Sound Ltd and Iain Mackie. His approach has always been about getting systems to feel musical and balanced within the room itself, rather than just loud for the sake of it. He also set a delayed rear fill through the back of the space so the sound carries naturally and consistently throughout the bar without needing to overpower the room.

We built the room around the sound first. A lot of places talk about music, but for us the system and the way records feel in the space was one of the starting points of the whole project. Early on, it can sit low and still reveal loads of detail in the music, then later into the evening it opens up effortlessly without becoming harsh or fatiguing.

Alot of time, testing and patience has gone into getting that feeling right.
