Have you been treating yourself to fresh flowers during lockdown..? I have because I love them in the house and they cheer me up 😃 here's a couple of little tips to arranging woody stems such as roses 🌹
1. Try to select the best looking stems to start with.
2. Remove any foliage that will be below the water line and any foliage that isn't perfect. Also remove any outer petals that aren't looking their best.
3. Cut stems at a diagonal and then 'slit' the stem vertically by a good inch - this helps woody stems draw the water up and will prolong their life.
4. Add foliage from your garden - anything will do but contrasting colours or textures work best and again, remove any leaves that aren't perfect - I usually work on a ratio of 2/3 foliage, 1/3 flowers.
5. Arrange your foliage first and build a good shape then add your stems at different heights and angles. These weren't ideal as 3 stems were broken very near the flower but place shorter stems towards the front and middle of your arrangement.
6. If all else fails, choose a novelty vase to display your stems and then people won't really notice what the flowers look like 😉

Stay safe and let me know if you have a go at home with your own arrangements xx

Lily tip: If you want open lilies for a particular date, make sure you purchase them approximately 5 days in advance as they take a good 4/5 days to open. These were already opening on saturday so they've had 4/5 days now. Personally, I think they're equally beautiful in bud xx

Happy New year to you all! As much as I love getting all the Christmas decorations up, I equally love clearing them all away and getting back to normal! This was my wreath coming down yesterday and shows how well fresh flowers will last outdoors at this time of year. And don't forget to keep any non perishable items from your wreaths, particularly if you fancy having a go at making your own wreath next year... it'll be here before you know it! 😉😘 xx

One final little tip for festive floral gorgeousness... if in doubt, add a fairy light! Happy festivities all ###

Final table arrangements completed today 😃 I like to decorate tops of cupboards etc with holly, ivy and any other evergreen foliage I can get my hands on... these are not arranged in any oasis or container, just placed on top of the unit, it's literally that easy! If you wanted your arrangement to last more than a week you would need to use something to provide moisture (oasis etc) but this will last quite happily over the festive period and makes your house look and feel really christmassy. Happy Christmas to you all, keep happy and healthy and thank you for keeping me so busy the last few weeks 😘 ###

If you feel you want to add a little extra to your wreaths why not add some fresh flowers or fruit (or even Brussels sprouts!?)... it's an inexpensive way to add a bit of luxury and will only cost a few pounds. If you're adding fruit/veg, just use cocktail sticks to secure them in the oasis xx

"I hate being given flowers because I never know what to do with them and just plonk them in a vase..." I hear this all the time so here's a few tips for you all on making a shop bought bunch of flowers look fab!
1. Remove any wilted/damaged flowers and all leaves that will sit below the water level as these will rot and encourage bacteria into the water.
2. Sort your stems into categories of each flower and put your foliage together.
3. I would generally advise adding extra greenery to your arrangement as foliage provides the backdrop to show off your blooms so if you don't have anything suitable in your garden, consider buying foliage and flowers (1/3 flowers to 2/3 foliage).
4. If you want to make arranging even easier, you can place strips of cellotape in a criss cross grid over the top of your vase as this gives support to your stems.
5. Place your foliage first creating the shape you want and providing structure for your flowers.
6. Place larger flowers in the centre of the arrangement working down in size as you arrange with the smaller ones placed towards the edges of the arrangement.
7. Aim for complementing or contrasting colours and textures and always select the healthiest looking flowers to begin with.

These are general guidelines and there are always exceptions to the rule but hopefully this will help you create something beautiful from shop bought flowers. Happy arranging all ###
