Have you been treating yourself to fresh flowers during lockdown..? I have because I love them in the house and they cheer me up 😃 here's a couple of little tips to arranging woody stems such as roses 🌹
1. Try to select the best looking stems to start with.
2. Remove any foliage that will be below the water line and any foliage that isn't perfect. Also remove any outer petals that aren't looking their best.
3. Cut stems at a diagonal and then 'slit' the stem vertically by a good inch - this helps woody stems draw the water up and will prolong their life.
4. Add foliage from your garden - anything will do but contrasting colours or textures work best and again, remove any leaves that aren't perfect - I usually work on a ratio of 2/3 foliage, 1/3 flowers.
5. Arrange your foliage first and build a good shape then add your stems at different heights and angles. These weren't ideal as 3 stems were broken very near the flower but place shorter stems towards the front and middle of your arrangement.
6. If all else fails, choose a novelty vase to display your stems and then people won't really notice what the flowers look like 😉
Stay safe and let me know if you have a go at home with your own arrangements xx
