I am a professional photographer specialising in portraiture. Spearheading 'Hidden Figures of the South West'. I am also an Enterprise Scholar.

Fuelled by an unhealthy tea addiction and entrepreneurial determination, I have spent over ten years studying and working in the Photographic industry and hold various qualifications in the field. In 2021 I graduated with a First Class Honours in BA Film, Photography and Media (Ent) from the University Of Leeds. I am often drawn to projects that make a difference. This includes a collection of por

traits titled 'The Sunflower People' that gave Cancer survivors a chance to feel beautiful and tell their story. I specialise in Portrait Photography but my expertise extends into many nuances within the creative industry. My broad creative skill set and substantial knowledge base gives me the tools to make your experience, and the resulting photographs, the best they can possibly be.

Today we're celebrating the people who make Yorkshire what it is.

For the past year, I've travelled across the county photographing over 150 incredible individuals who keep traditional crafts, heritage skills, and overlooked professions alive.

Their stories will be brought together in Hidden Figures of Yorkshire.

This isn't backed by a publisher.

There isn't a large company funding production.

Bathed in the golden rays of sunset, a group of volunteers were shown the process of Flax Pulling and Rippling by Adam, , as part of Flax Forward project.

When processed, the inner stem of these pulled flax plants is used to create linen. The seed heads, which are removed during rippling where bundles of flax are drawn through a forked metal tool, can be used to plant next year's crop. Flaxseed is also valued for its health benefits when ingested, for example, lowering blood pressure and improving digestion.

On Monday, June 15th, at 3 AM, I was on my first (and possibly last) fishing boat out to sea.

When Will Jenkinson invited me out, I probably should have had more thoughts of self-preservation, but as a great believer in experiencing as many 'hidden worlds' as possible at least once, I quickly found myself on board Our Sharon, a catamaran that quickly proved its capability to weather rough seas.

About 2 hours out, I was introduced to the turbulent tides created by strong and opposing currents at Flamborough Head, termed as the 'Head End' by Scarborough fishermen. The forecast of calm waters with waves with a height of 2-6 ft was quickly turned on its head as we were churned around on looming 15 ft waves, with the occasional 20 ft wave causing enough disturbance to throw me out of my seat.

I am ashamed to say that I had to cling to my kindly provided bucket whilst Will and Tim glided around the deck like true masters of the sea. Whilst I questioned my life choices and my choice of breakfast, cries of enjoyment could be heard as they continued to haul in lobster pots.

A typical 12-hour day working at sea had to be cut short due to a need to save the photographer who definitely doesn't possess 'sea legs,' but we did still manage to take a fantastic portrait and fit in an interview once we were back on calmer waters.

Apparently, we were the only fishing boat daring enough to leave Scarborough today, so I can tentatively say that I didn't embarrass myself too much. I am left with the utmost respect for those who make their living battling with the omnificent ocean and a certainty that I should do my best to avoid any future invitations to photograph them at work.

Katy is a pencil artist and illustrator based in Dorset, who is featured in the book and was commissioned to create the first 'Hidden Figure Map.'

A man truly deserving of becoming a centenarian. The number of individuals whose lives continue to be influenced by the programs and research that David Attenborough has influenced is insurmountable. We can only hope that world leaders eventually listen to the lessons he has taught us!
