'Hidden Figures of the South West': A Portrait Collection Celebrating Unsung Professions
'Hidden Figures of the South West' is a portrait collection featuring over two hundred individuals in underappreciated occupations in the South West of England. Brought together by photographer Caitlin Pharoah of Hummingbird's Photography, these professions include conservationists, traditional artisans, artists and many others, each contributing uniquely to life in the South West of England.
The portraits will be released in a book and showcased in a series of exhibitions from 1st April 2025. The exhibitions and events will take place at various locations, including:
Barnstaple Library: 1st April - 31st July
Exeter Library: 1st May - 31st May
Bristol Library: 7th July - 20th July
Visitors can expect an enriching experience with engaging talks and interactive workshops by βHidden Figures.β This initiative aims to celebrate the individuals featured in the collection and encourages visitors to connect with the stories behind each portrait.
As traditional skills and knowledge fade away, this collection strives to retain and honour the rich heritage of professions that often go unnoticed. Together, we can achieve a significant change and ensure that these valuable contributions are remembered and appreciated for future generations.
