TOILING DAY…. Well morning with this heat!

Toiling an asymmetric bodice by draping fabric on the bias on-top of a sturdy corset.
The brides dress will be in pure silk Dupion (and yes Green!) so with this mock up, I’m testing to see if I am able to use every little bit of left over fabric. Creating the draped areas by overlapping ruched panels and stretching each piece around the form hiding any raw edges and blending the panels together.

I haven’t draped like this in years and so I’m really loving this! 💚

A traditional bespoke veil off to her forever home 🤍

For my bride it was all about class, elegance and a timeless romantic feel.
So this gorgeous classic veil is made from a super soft ‘vintage’ tulle adorned with a corded lace trim to go with the brides satin gown.

A bespoke veil can be the perfect addition because it is purely your style, your design and your choices as to how it compliments the dress. 🤍

Before and After 💙

Elizabeth was an absolute hoot! This fabulous lady wanted to re-wear her wedding dress for her silver wedding anniversary, but wanted it to be redesigned to something that was a bit more her style now.

To adapt this silk beauty, I shortened the skirt to ‘midi length’ complimentary to Elizabeth’s height.
From the cut offs I repurposed the fabric by creating a new style top, which was meticulously cut in lots of different panels to fit the grain of the fabric and small amount I had to work with.
Elizabeth requested a classic V neck with sleeves, but unfortunately with only 8” length cut off we didn’t have enough silk! …However I managed to find a lace that matched beautifully which gave her the coverage she wanted on her arms and also created a little extra lace detail on the back.

Seams didn’t match from bodice to skirt and areas of the fabric were slightly thinning down after storage, being a natural raw silk… however this didn’t matter to Elizabeth. Her desire to wear her original dress and give it new life made her so happy. Even the lace chosen was the same name as her daughter making it feel even more special! 🥰

A truly memorable project for a really lovely lady. One I will always cherish being a part of.

🤍 Real bride 🤍

The loveliest bride, Emily, tied the knot surrounded by the stunning blue waters of Norway aboard a cruise ship!

What an unforgettable celebration—made even more special when the captain invited them to pour the champagne waterfall! 🍾

For Emily’s gown, I completed a full bodice resize, added extra corsetry for enhanced shape and support, adjusted the hem length, and refined the skirt to beautifully complement her figure. The result was a perfect fit for her special day. 🤍

A bespoke handmade veil, designed especially to sit perfectly beneath a bun. 👰🏼

My bride always knew she wanted to show off the beautiful twisted detail her stylist created in her hairstyle… which meant ditching the classic comb a veil normally comes with.

Instead, I’ve used delicate loops for hair pins to slide through — the perfect way to keep the look clean, comfortable, and secure, while feeling so lightweight you can forget it’s even there. 🤍

First look at gorgeous Alice 🤍

With bespoke silk chiffon sleeves added to her stunning gown, Alice had just a few words to share….

“Just thank you, I felt incredible all day and night, thank you for your amazing work!”

With a full resize, bespoke detachable sleeves and little elements to make Alice feel comfortable for the whole day, these pictures and words are simply the best to receive knowing each little adjustment and addition made her dress perfect for the day.

Toiling sneak peek 🪡
A crucial stage to getting the perfect fit on a bespoke wedding dress and making sure all proportions are in place.

A toile is the perfect time to make sure your pattern and measurements are on point, but it also gives the bride an opportunity to change up anything that doesn’t feel right for her.

For me I like to toile in fabrics with a similar weight and structure to what the finished garment will have. (Especially for the bodice)
So for this client using classic coutil for the corset (which will be used in the real gown) and a soft lace on the bodice to replicate French chantilly was a prefect replica of what we are going to use. For her skirt I wasn’t worried about the fabrics being a classic circle cut shape…So don’t worry it won’t be this see through!

I absolutely love this part of the process. You can be critical to your own work as you are problem solving, working out new techniques that are unique for the clients design as well as actually seeing the shape compliment the bride beautifully 🤍

Now time to get stuck into the actual dress. She’s going to be a beauty!
