Supporting an ageing parent does not mean taking over.
This is something a lot of people get wrong, not because they do not care, but because they care so much that they want to fix things. Quickly. Thoroughly. Before anything can go wrong.
But the most powerful support you can offer is often much quieter than that. It is being present. It is asking rather than assuming. It is saying, shall we look at this together? rather than arriving with a plan already made.
Your parent has lived a full life. They know things about themselves that you do not. The best conversations happen when they are a partner in the process, not a passenger.
What would it look like to support them in that way this week?
Drop a thought in the comments. I would love to hear how you approach it. 💛
