Cheshire Pony Parties

Cheshire Pony Parties Professionally organised, engaging pony and unicorn parties, experiences and holiday fun & educator in stunning peaceful orchard venue Amanda Keech Pony Expert!

Amanda is a life long horse lover with over 40 years of horse ownership experience. "As a pony mad child I dreamt of Father Christmas leaving me a pony at the bottom of my bed on Christmas day. Whilst that dream never materialised, I had riding lessons from the age of five and at eleven, a chance visit to a distant cousin resulted in us taking possession of an orphaned foal. That was the beginning

of a delightful association with a number of ponies and horses, including pony holidays, carriage driving, competing and breeding my own foals." Having children brought little ponies into the mix and with them, Amanda started one of the first pony party businesses in the UK, Cheshire Pony Parties in 2008. She estimates she's entertained almost 2000 children (and adults!) with her ponies. Amanda is known for engaging children both as an entertainer at her pony parties but also as an educator - she has been praised for her educational chocolate workshops in primary schools. She holds the British Horse Society Stable Management qualification and is a fully qualified accountant and tax adviser too! Her ponies are happy, healthy fluffy and friendly and are inspected regularly by Cheshire West and Cheshire as part of Amanda's license. Amanda holds the top 5* licence, number 22/RS/011

Her orchard setting is stunning and has been described as a 'photographer's dream' by a professional photographer. It regularly stops parents in their tracks.

Arrggg.
Couldn’t get to sleep last night- brain was busy trying to resolve a little problem- does your brain do that? SO annoying!
Poor Demi seems to have developed a skin allergy. He rubs his mane, tail and ears from mid summer til late autumn. He also scratches his tummy. We don’t as yet know what the trigger is so he wears a rug to stop the flies biting him but also to stop him being able to remove most of his hair! Wouldn’t be a good look at pony parties.
Now I do have an issue with NOT allowing him to scratch himself as self and mutual grooming is a natural behaviour, however he’d rub himself raw if left without a rug and then there’s a risk of infection.
Demi has other ideas and has ripped his rug and got it off 3 times so far😩. He now has a rubbed area with no hair on it and ‘red raw’ just above his tail. I’ve put some cream on it but he’s still rubbing it.
And this is what my brain was trying to solve when I went to bed last night!
The solution- remove the rug to get air to the rubbed area so it can scab over AND put him where there are minimal things that will scratch him. That is my small electric fenced yard area with access to the stables.
No trees or bushes BUT some doorways which he can rub against but hopefully won’t remove hair! And I don’t think (🤞) anywhere he can rub the red raw bit on ( I think he was scratching this on a hedge branch).
And my brain kindly woke me up at 5.45 so I could move him early- thanks!
I’m hoping that in a week or so there’ll be a decent scab- I think he’ll have to stay there til the area has regrown hair, otherwise it’s going to be at risk of getting red raw again 😩
The yard area isn’t ideal for more than a few days as there’s little enrichment/ interesting things to do/eat etc in there ( I can probably find some fun things to go in there) -again it’s a compromise to prioritise the healing of his skin. He does have his old and long term friend, Poppy with him for company😊
I might also get the vet to come and give him a steroid injection which stops the desire to itch so would aid healing and prevent reoccurrence
Brains ARE clever things- I was v busy yesterday so it clearly waited until there was a break in activity to assess and come up with a solution!

It’s important to always consider the ponies’ welfare. With this hot weather it’s important to try and keep the ponies as cool as possible, especially Tess with her thick black coat!
HERE, we have lots of trees providing shade, however today I was over in Wilmslow. I’d asked the mum if they had any shelter from the sun( trees/walls etc, but she said they didn’t. Fortunately a family friend was getting rid of this fabulous heavy duty gazebo, which you can just about see, offers much needed shade.
I kept Tess in there as much as possible ( on change of rider etc) and the guest mums kept topping her bucket up with water.
Travelling in a trailer is quite hot too so I opened the vents to provide a breeze whilst we travelled.
I also considered taking towels to wet and put over her back but felt happy the gazebo would suffice.
Today’s 25 degrees is about the top of what horses can cope with, without shelter. Tess had loads to drink and showed no signs of heat stress/dehydration.
Although the sun was out today there was a light very welcome breeze.
And to top it all the kids had a great time!

Muck heap finally all spread on winter paddocks.
It’s free organic fertiliser AND it spreads grass seeds from the hay the horses have eaten so over seeds at the same time!
Just some preservative to apply before it’s ready to be refilled.

Our Story

Cheshire pony parties was started in 2008 by Cheshire mum of two and life-long horse enthusiast Amanda Keech.

Using the family’s two quiet, well-behaved pet ponies, Amanda initially provided the ponies to attend children’s birthday parties but we now have a range of pony parties, pony experiences and pony events available.

The family lives in the heart of Cheshire, near to Chester with their 2 dogs and a gaggle of equines large and small!
