A BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year finalist, Rising Star award-winner in the British Jazz Awards, and three-time Parliamentary Jazz Awards nominee, Alex is one of the most in-demand saxophonists on the British jazz scene.

Rooted in the bebop tradition, Alex's powerful, melodic playing draws inspiration from the likes of Phil Woods, Sonny Stitt & Cannonball Adderley. Alex has performed at leading venues and festivals such as Swanage Jazz Festival, Pizza Express Soho and Scarborough Jazz Festival.

CHELTENHAM - coming up in AUGUST, don’t miss saxophonist Alan Barnes leading a jazz jam open to all, plus superb house band 🎷

Join us for jazz in Cheltenham at on Weds 12 August 🎵

Alan Barnes is a prolific international performer, composer, arranger, bandleader and touring soloist best known for his work on clarinet, alto and baritone sax. With over 30 British Jazz Awards, he has twice been made BBC Jazz Musician of the Year.

Alan will be guest soloist for a jam session open to all, with a superb house band including Eddie Gripper (piano), Nick Kacal (bass), and Patrick Barrett-Donlon (drums).

Alan and the house band will kick off the evening with a set at 7:30pm, before opening the jam session for the rest of the night.

Instrumentalists and vocalists (and listeners!) of all abilities are welcome for this friendly, relaxed evening.

Whether you plan to take part in the session or just soak up the atmosphere, this will be a brilliant night featuring some of the top players on the scene.

Join us for jazz in Cheltenham at The Steam and Whistle on Weds 12 August 🎵
