After months of work, a brand new bar, a completely redesigned garden and plenty of cocktail tasting…

Storyteller Cocktail Lounge & W**e Bar opens Wednesday 16th September.

And in our 30th year in Cheltenham, it feels pretty special to be having an opening night all over again.

So what’s coming?

🍸 A proper cocktail menu
🍷 A bigger, more interesting w**e list
🥂 Fizz, spirits, beers and more
🌿 Our completely redesigned garden
🍽️ A small menu of food and nibbles

And because so many of you have asked…

YES, THE STORYTELLER RIBS ARE COMING BACK! 🔥

Just to clear up one thing, we’re not reopening as a restaurant. This is a Cocktail Lounge & W**e Bar, with a deliberately small food menu to enjoy alongside the drinks.

Our Conservatory also remains a private hire venue, but whenever we don’t have an event, we’ll open the doors between the two and the whole of Storyteller becomes the Cocktail Bar.

The response to our guest list has been incredible, so our first month will be a controlled soft opening, by invitation and advance booking only.

The next chapter is very nearly ready… 🍸🌿

The garden is finished, there’s just a little more paint and a few final touches to go, and then our new cocktail lounge & w**e bar will be ready.

Behind the scenes, we’re now putting the finishing touches to the w**e and cocktail menus, and…… after so many of you asked, we’ve decided to bring back a small selection of food too.

We’re not turning Storyteller back into a restaurant. The focus is very much on great cocktails, good w**e and relaxed evenings, but we also know that sometimes you want something to share alongside a drink.

So the food menu will be deliberately small and social: think our famous ribs, burritos, charcuterie, cheeseboards, nachos, breads with dips and chicken wings. And yes, our head chef from the restaurant days will be back in the kitchen personally preparing them.

We’ll be announcing the opening date on Friday 4th September, and at the same time we’ll start contacting everyone who has asked to be added to the invite list.

The response so far has been phenomenal. Genuinely. We’ve been overwhelmed by how many people have messaged, commented and asked to come along, so thank you.

Because of that response, our soft opening will now run over a few weeks rather than just a few days, with entry initially by invite or advance booking only before we open fully for walk-ins.

And just as before, Storyteller’s private events venue continues exactly as normal — weddings, birthdays, celebrations and private hire aren’t going anywhere. The cocktail lounge and w**e bar is simply something new alongside everything we already do.

Half of our key Christmas dates are already booked…

And considering it’s only August, we think December could be a busy one!

If you’ve been given the job of organising this year’s work Christmas party, now might be the time to get it in the diary before the remaining prime dates disappear too.

Whether you’re looking for something smaller in our brand-new Cocktail Suite for up to 35 guests, a bigger celebration in our main Conservatory, or want to take over both spaces together, we can cater for Christmas parties of all shapes and sizes.

And while the venue might have changed a little over the years, the important bit hasn’t…

We’ve been an independent Cheltenham restaurant and venue for nearly 30 years, and we still do things properly. Our Christmas food is prepared in-house by our own chefs — right down to the desserts. No bought-in catering packages, no mass-produced puddings arriving in boxes.

Just proper food, a fully stocked bar, exclusive use of your space and a team that has been hosting Cheltenham Christmas parties for three decades.

Half of our key December dates are now gone, but there are still some great dates available.

Ready to welcome today’s happy couple! 💜

They’ve added their own beautiful touches throughout the venue, with a soft lilac colour scheme, delicate chair bows, personalised table details and balloons carrying the theme from the Conservatory right through to the Cocktail Suite and garden.

Everything is set, the sun is shining and we’re looking forward to helping them celebrate their wedding day with all their favourite people.

Another week, another step closer… 🍸

The next phase of the new Storyteller cocktail & w**e lounge is nearly complete.

Over the coming week, the private front garden will be finished and our bespoke sliding door will be completed, giving the new lounge its own identity while still allowing it to connect seamlessly with the rest of Storyteller when needed.

And just to be clear, the cocktail lounge is an addition to Storyteller, not a replacement for what we already do.

Our private hire venue will continue exactly as before for weddings, birthdays, celebrations, corporate events and everything in between. This simply gives us another space, another atmosphere and another reason to visit.

We’re now close enough to say this too…

By the end of August, we’ll have announced the opening date.

The first few weeks will be a soft opening by invitation or advance booking only, giving us the chance to settle in before we open the doors fully for walk-ins.

Not quite ready to officially open the doors to the cocktail bar just yet… but tonight gave us a pretty good idea of how it’s going to feel. 🍸

A little test run, a busy bar, good people and exactly the sort of atmosphere we had in mind when we started transforming this space.

There are still a few finishing touches to come before we announce the official opening — but we’re getting very close.

When we do open, the Cocktail Bar will be open to the public Thursday–Saturday evenings when it isn’t privately hired.

And judging by tonight… we think it’s going to work rather nicely.

A little update from behind the scenes…

The ceiling is finished, the floor has been revarnished, a new door is being installed next week, and we’re starting to give the garden area a bit of attention too.

It’s been one of those projects where every finished job seems to reveal another one, but it’s properly starting to come together now — and we’re very close to being able to announce an opening date.

One thing we can tell you already: the first few opening weeks will be by invite only.

We want to ease into it, get everything running exactly how we want it, and welcome a smaller crowd through the doors first.
