The Grotto Club Cheltenham Sixties R&B, Mersey & Brum Beat music venue featuring local and Midlands based musicians

THE Grotto Club, Cheltenham was housed in the skittle alley of The Wheatsheaf Inn in the Old Bath Road and was the first to cater for a teenage LIVE music loving audience. The Grotto was devised and initially operated by the successful local group of musicians known as THE TALISMEN and their manager Roger Kendrick. This page is dedicated to the club which ran from approximately 1964 to 66 startin

g with R&B groups and quickly moving to become an early scooter riders Mod based club. The Grotto Club was a fore-runner of the Blue Moon Club based in Cheltenham. Many of the Grotto Club's teenage members moved to the London music scene inspired Blue Moon Club in the town's High Street following its opening during the mid-summer of '65.
