On Friday 7th March, we celebrated the life of our founder, Robert Bartella. A day full of sadness but also happy memories of Robert’s long and full life. A true legend of his generation.

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude for the messages and sympathy cards received since his passing.

To continue Robert’s legacy of helping those in need in the community, the family have set up a fundraising page for The Essex Community Foundation, Bartella Charitable Fund founded by Robert himself:

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Bartella, the esteemed patriarch of our company. He departed peacefully on Thursday 30th January 2025.

Born in Greece in 1938, Robert was a prominent businessman in Essex, renowned for his ownership/partnership of several notable establishments, including Pontlands Park, Ivy Hill, Furze Hill, Bartellas Restaurant, South Lodge, Whitehall, The Heybridge, Sam’s, Eclipse and Dukes Nightclub, amongst others.

His legacy will endure, and he will be deeply missed. Our heartfelt condolences extend to his family and loved ones during this challenging time.
