I’m a flower farmer and it’s taken me sixteen years of making mistakes to get where I am. Today I publish the first piece about those mistakes in my newsletter and I’ll put the link in stories. Running any small business including a flower farmer is challenging, interesting, creative…. And if it’s not grounded in one thing it’ll likely fail. Have a read of the piece and let me know if you agree x

What are we up to in the Common Farm Flowers Club this June?

Every Thursday at 5pm in term time, our paid subscribers join us live on Substack for an hour of flower farming and floristry related conversation, special expert guests and real hands-on demos.

This evening (Thursday 5pm) we are joined by the wonderful Jo Thompson - garden designer, RHS Chelsea Gold Medal winner, and author. And there’s so much more still to come this month:

Thursday 11th June - Guest Francesca McGarey joins us to talk digital footprints, relevant to us all whether we grow for profit or pleasure (a topic clubbers have been asking about!)

Thursday 18th June - A clubber suggested Q&A on perennials that really earn their keep

Thursday 25th June - Our last session before the summer break: a look back at our growing year so far, the highs, the challenges, and plenty of tips for what’s still ahead

If you’re thinking of joining the club, for £75 a year (or £10 a month) you get up to 30 live sessions a year, access to our full archive, discounts on website orders, and more.

New subscribers can catch up on everything we’ve covered in the past, including sessions from earlier this term on growing fillers and annuals, RHS Chelsea and a general Q&A, guest Sarah Gray of Bloom and Gray, chatting about soil blocking and a demo on creating a sustainable funeral wreath.

Any questions? Just ask….otherwise, the link is in the bio to join us.

Sustainable church flowers is a hot topic since the C of E Synod encouraged all parishes to step away from floral foam and towards locally grown flowers. As part of our village open gardens event today I thought a sustainable church flowers demo might be a useful contribution. And then I thought I’d film the process for you all too. The Club version with exclusive extras is up now - and the version for those who prefer the ‘tube is loading sloooowwwly (sorry - internet struggling this eve). I’ll put links to both in stories. Enjoy!
