improve their skills and connect with like-minded arborists.2025 marks the 30th anniversary of climbing competitions in the UK so join us to celebrate this fantastic milestone!

The competition aims to simulate working conditions of arborists in the field. Male and female competitors complete five different events during preliminary rounds. Each event tests a competitor’s ability to professionally and safely manoeuvre in a tree while performing work-related tree-care tasks in a timely manner.

🎖️ Preliminary Events consist of Ascent, Throwline, Aerial Rescue, Work Climb, Speed Climb.

(Competition will be run in accordance with ISA rules with working practices to reflect current UK&I AA Technical Guidance: TG1 Tree climbing and aerial rescue).

Aerial rescue scenario

You are the senior arborist on the site. You have tasked a newly qualified climber with dead wooding this oak tree. You have heard a scream followed by a thump. The new climber has fallen approximately 3m and has landed unsecured on the limb on their back. Casualty is complaining he is struggling to move and is concerned about his back. They were working from two lines. One on a ddrt on courant kalimba with Liros 9.1mm safeprus tied in a catalyst and hitch climber pulley. The other is SRT on Teufelberger Tachyon with courant pheonix tied in a 4 wrap VT with a phlotich pulley. Both systems were attached to one bridge to separate bridge rings. Their lanyard is a 5m tachyon with a liros safeprus tied in a VT with an ISC swing cheek pulley. Their harness is a single bridge tree motion. They were rushing and not attached their lanyard. They have just removed a dead branch with a silky saw and have cut their bridge.

Your access line is 45m Teufelberger Tachyon setup in a cambium saver to retrieve with the spliced eye.

The dummy weighs between 60-70kg.
