Memorial Fixer
Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
Salary: To be discussed at interview stage
Holiday: 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking individual to join our team as a Memorial Fixer. This is a hands-on role involving the installation, repair, and maintenance of memorials in cemeteries and churchyards.

Key Responsibilities -
* Installing new headstones and memorials to industry standards
* Carrying out repairs, refixing, and renovation work on existing memorials
* Preparing foundations and ensuring memorials are installed safely and securely
* Conducting site visits and assessments where required
* Maintaining a high standard of workmanship and attention to detail
* Ensuring all work complies with health and safety regulations
* Representing the company professionally and respectfully whilst working in cemeteries and churchyards

Requirements: -
* Previous experience in memorial fixing, masonry, construction, or a similar practical trade is desirable but not essential
* Full training will be provided to the right candidate
* Good practical skills and the ability to work independently
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
* Full UK driving licence preferred
* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
* A respectful and professional approach when working in sensitive environments

This role would suit someone who takes pride in their work, is physically fit, eager to learn, and enjoys working as part of a dedicated team.

So, our Freddies journey today
He left Ridgeway, flew over a few times before zooming down to Rhiwbina, then back up, past Thornhill crem, over the mountain, down to Nantgarw, then across to Hawthorn up to pontypridd then dropping into Treforest. Rod saw him land and go in the loft, but then it showed the tracker in the Upper Boat pub🤣
Not sure how that happened, maybe the signal? But then showed back at the loft.

Sorry to bore you all, but to me, its fascinating. When you've spent 20 years thinking they fly in a straight line, but the dont, wondering which route they take, and now we can see it.

Rod doesnt like them. He feels the birds dont like them. How he knows that is beyond my level of understanding.

Good morning, RAIN 😍

It is our job, our most important "on the day" job to ensure all our birds are released in safe conditions, and in safe areas, no matter the occasion.

Unless the weather conditions are suitable, we cant let our birds fly.
Now unsuitable weather can depend on many things

For example, rain.
Raining means we need to consider distance as well as visibility. Very short flying times and good visibility with an experienced bird, they will do the journey. Linger distances, even in light rain, its a no go for us.

Something else too that you probably won't have thought of - feathering.
From October to June, they have feathers like silk, they act like little rain coats! But from July to September, their feathers start to dry out, ready to fall out! They are porous and offer little protection from the elements.

Then theres the opposite, the heat.
We know the birds are very tolerant of extreme temperatures, we also know the temperatures above 1000 feet are cooler. BUT as we cannot possibly guarantee the birds fly at that altitude, we dont risk them flying far, not at all over 31°

Then there are places that could pose a risk.

After 19 years, we know most venues churches etc, but there are occasions where we dont.

Its not something youll necessarily think about, but, dont worry, we will.

On a main road, near multiple overhead cables, where there is no room for them to gather height. They need a bit of a run to "get up there" they aren't like helicopters, they are more like your boeing! So, a fairly open and unobstructed take off is necessary.
We will always look for alternatives

We have needed to do this twice this last week, and we know you understand

Our doves are always a priority, we know where the boundaries are, whether its weather, time, or location - what's safe and what's not, and act accordingly.

Any caring and ethical supplier will be the same, and of course, only fly Rock Doves that are tagged and trained to home!

Injured, stray birds...

Please be aware, we can only accept pigeons & doves. This is where our expertise is.
We know nothing about parrots, budgies, crows or hawks.

We cant come out to collect. We are happy to finance the recovery, even keep with us, but we cant be driving around collecting birds. We are not a sanctuary of any sort, just happy to help where we can.

This little one fully recovered and flying out with our flock. He tries, but lasts about 90 seconds before needing a rest.

3 friends of a very special young lady got together and booked us so her young children could release a dove for their Mam. What a thoughtful thing to do, to involve the children.

It was forecast to rain at the time, but the sun was shining, and our Mary was loved.

Mary was released in Cwm, and was home before I even got to Ebbw Vale!

Such a beautiful bird, and this will be her final season as she is now 6 years old.

I would be absolutely devastated.

I was in Ebbw Vale for a service today and a few people approached me to talk about my birds, and brought this up too. They're not very happy about it in the valley!

National Dog Day

Meet, Mair the Dog

I know shes not a bird, but shes every bit as part of our lives as they are!

Whats more she and our birds get on just fine. If they're in the lofts, she can walk in and they're not bothered by her, she doesnt bother them.

Shes gentle, unless shes greeting us home, then "guard your knees"🤣 she absolutely adores Rod, shes a character, very intelligent, but suffers from selective hearing syndrome 🙉 on occasion.

Can't imagine life without her! 😍

🕊️ THE WHITE PIGEON MYTH — LET'S TALK ABOUT IT

Every now and then we see a photograph online of a white pigeon or dove that has been found injured, followed by comments saying:

“It must have been released at a wedding.”

We sort of understand why people make that assumption, but if you take logic into account, the small number of dove releases that take place throughout the UK, compared to the 10s of thousands of feral white pigeons, the odds are very much against that theory.

But here's the important bit:

A photograph of an injured white bird is not evidence of where that bird came from...unless of course, it has an ID tag.

At Lovey Dovey UK, our birds are trained homing Rock Doves aka homing pigeons.
They have a home loft, they're trained to return to it, and our birds are individually identified. We only use this breed because of its remarkable capabilities to home!

And when we say "trained to return" we mean through exercise and nutrition, their fitness training. They dont need humans to show them where they live! They have better geographical awareness than any human being.

And because we know that saying “trust us” isn't enough, we've gone a step further.

We've actually tracked some very recently.

We've fitted GPS trackers to three different birds and recorded their journeys home.

We've shared our training.
We've shared our free flying.
We've shared our birds' identification.
We've shared our lofts.
And we regularly show you the birds themselves.

We're not asking people to believe that homing birds can find their way home.

We're showing you.

So when you see a post saying that an injured white pigeon “must have been released at a wedding”, please remember that the photograph alone doesn't establish that.

It may be tempting to assume.

But assumption isn't evidence

It would be akin to thinking that a beloved cat that has just been found at the roadside must have come from a home that doesnt care about it.
Things are not always that black & white are they?

We care enormously about our birds and their welfare. They're not disposable props that are used for a few minutes and forgotten about afterwards.

They're living animals that we train, care for and ensure through nutrition, training and tagging they get home.

And that's something we're proud to show you. ❤️
