What can you expect at meetings?
The video below explains the structure of SMART meetings.
A 90 minute SMART meeting consists of:
- Preamble
Someone reads the Opening Statement
- Check-in
1-5 minutes (depending on meeting size) you may talk without interruption about how your week went, any successes, and any issues you encountered. (You may pass, and just listen if you prefer).
- Agenda setting
Facilitator and attendees together set an agenda based on a few topics that came up in the check-in
- Main discussion
Deeper discussion about the chosen issues on the agenda
Participants and the facilitator discuss one or more SMART tool(s) to apply to the issues
- Check-out
Opportunity to state what you found helpful/unhelpful about the meeting. Which tools are you going to practise the coming week?
- Pass the Hat
At the end of the meeting a voluntary contribution may be asked. No obligation to contribute. You're also welcome if you do not donate.
There are also 'hosted' meetings, with a 'host'. These take only one hour, and are more informal.

PS: In the video clip Lorie mentions that meetings are 3-12 people and online meetings are capped at 35.
If you notice a particular meeting getting too big, you could consider becoming a facilitator and open a new meeting! Find more info on how to become a facilitator on the SMART websites.
