Children rehearse real life scenarios safely through role play. For example if they are worried about visiting a doctor, they may role play being a doctor. If they are nervous about school, they may role play being in a school environment. Through role play, fear becomes familiarity and confidence grows.

Spotlight on our Café Role Play Area!

Our café is a busy little space where children can step into the world of cafés and restaurants through imaginative play.

The area has been set up to give children lots of opportunities to recreate familiar, real life experiences. They can choose what they would like from the menu, take customers’ orders, prepare and serve food and drinks, set the table and enjoy sitting together in our café. Children can take on different roles too, from being the chef or café worker to the customer waiting for their order.

We’ve included lots of familiar café resources and props to make the experience meaningful and engaging, encouraging children to create their own ideas and storylines as their play develops.

There is so much learning happening! Children are developing their communication and language as they chat, ask questions and take orders. They are exploring maths through counting, recognising numbers and pretending to pay, as well as building important social skills such as sharing, turn taking, cooperating and negotiating roles.

Most importantly, our café gives children a fun and inviting space to use their imaginations, build their confidence and make sense of the world around them.
