What a wonderful creative talent - Catalina Mackinlay, wonderful embassy pastry chef, who recreated these two landmark buildings in Buenos Aires for the 200 year celebration of UK- Argentine relations. On the left is the ‘Torre Ingles’. This tower was built as a gift to Argentina to celebrate 100 years of our relationship . On the right, the iconic monument ‘ El Obelisco’ situated on the Plaza de la Republica and inaugurated in 1936 to celebrate the 4th centenary of the city’s first foundation by Pedro Mendoza in 1536 . Its location marks the spot where the Argentine national flag was raised for the first time.

I never imagined when I started my floristry training Shuttleworth college and worked with the wonderful Claire Cowling 4 years ago that these skills would come into their own to support my husband in his role as HMA Argentina one day ! Last night at the British Embassy Buenos Aires we celebrated a very special celebration of 200 years of relations between the UK and Argentina and the King’s 77th birthday. What an amazing opportunity to put my floral skills to use and to have a ‘ back of house role’ supporting our embassy team with this event by by making all the floral arrangements with 3 lovely local florists!!

The first photo is taken at 4pm yesterday after completing the ‘flower wall’ (using all the fabulous exotic foliages from the garden includes giant magnolia leaves and flowers and monstera leaves almost bigger than me !! ) And 3 hours later it was time for me to change to ‘front of house’ duties and welcome our 900 guests to the event alongside David 😊 ( nails just about acceptable 😅)

Seeing the video taken of the national anthem playing and the beautiful flower wall we created for the event made me feel really proud.

A v big thank you to Claire, as ever, for her design concept and video teach-in and to all the wonderful staff at the embassy - it was a huge effort but I think we definitely put on a floral show worthy of His Majesty’s 77 birthday and 200 years of relationship between UK and Argentina ! ♥️

I am so excited to be here and can’t wait to discover more of this beautiful country and the people who have welcomed us so warmly .Salud! 🥂
