8 classes entered and placed in 6. A 1st, four 2nds and a 3rd. Not bad for my first entry into a big show. Chuffed to bits and really enjoyed being creative……. And it helped me so much in a very difficult week. Mum taught me to knit and it was accompanying her to a flower class when I was 19 that got me into flowers. My 1st prize was for a fidget cushion for people with dementia - seems rather apt. I made it for mum. But now it’s going to have a new home with another elderly lady who might like it.

Just wanted to share. We are always looking for sustainable products. However as you can see one of these foams 91% disappears within 3 years in landfill. Or our compost for that matter.

I buy a lot of my flowers from local growers to reduce carbon footprint and one of my growers doesn’t use any chemicals too. I sometimes use innovative mechanics to avoid foam altogether.

We must remember though that many wedding roses come from Ecuador, Kenya and other far flung places; all or most flowers are cello wrapped and bound with elastic bands…….. the industry has a long way to go - but try to remember that florists are at the very end of the line! Much can be done before blooms get to us.

Also - totally foam free weddings are more expensive - because of the mechanics and also because they can’t be created the day before if the venue is holding another wedding.
