TOP YOUTUBE BROADCASTER SHOWS HOW TOWNS COULD BECOME INDEPENDENT

The popular YouTube presenter and ‘Bald Explorer’ RICHARD VOBES speaks for the Changing Times lectures at Cyprus Hall, Burgess Hill, Tuesday 14 October 2025 at 8.15pm.

At his lecture, Richard will talk about the big ideas and inspiration behind his new book, Biggleswick – The Town That Wouldn’t Comply, and about his current move back to the land to grow food and escape the system.

In Richard’s book he imagines a community deciding to become independent of the more dubious governmental controls. His lively and passionate presentation will demonstrate, with humour and insight, that although it is a fictional story, such a situation could and should in his view be made possible. Richard says: “There is no time like the present, and now is definitely the time to stop talking and start doing”.

A renowned entertainer and film maker, Richard Vobes toured the UK with his one man mime show and wrote, produced and starred in the children’s television show, Snug and Cozi, on ITV in the 1990s. He became the fourth-ever UK podcaster in 2005, winning an award for his daily entertainment show. With a fascination for all things English, he created the ‘Bald Explorer’ series of TV documentaries and now runs a successful YouTube channel commenting on English life – and ways in which it can be improved.

The presentation will begin at 8.15pm on Tuesday 14 October, with a door entry fee of £8 (no pre-booking). Further details can be found at: www.changingtimes.org.uk
