Most event bars are functional. Pour. Serve. Move on. We saw them as something else entirely.

In collaboration with Paul Morris (Brampton Valley) and Stuart Knight (Liquid Bars), alongside the amazing brands of Poretti and Estrella, we set out to create two bars that delivered an experience, not just an escape.

Two brands. Two worlds.

Poretti became the marble archway to an Italian lake, calm, elevated, a sense of arrival.
Estrella became a Dali inspired Barcelona townhouse, vibrant, textured, full of life.

But this wasn’t just about set dressing.

It was the detail, the materials, the finish, the craftsmanship, that made people feel something before they even ordered a drink.

The strength of the build.
The texture of the surfaces.
The way the lighting pulled you in.

Small signals, but powerful ones.
Because when something feels considered, people stay longer, engage more, and remember it.

And that’s where the real collaboration sits.
Not just between agencies and brands, but between idea and ex*****on.

At the Publican Awards, where everything is competing for attention, that level of care is what turns a space into a destination.

The result?

The bars didn’t just serve drinks.
They held attention.
They sparked conversation.
They became part of the experience.

Do your giveaways fill the tote bag graveyard or build brand loyalty?
The difference?
How hard they are to get.

You walk past a stand.
Someone hands you a branded stress ball or usb stick.
It goes straight into the tote bag graveyard.

No story. No effort. No memory.
Now flip it.

You spin a wheel.
Pick a key, crack open a locker.
Same giveaway, completely different feeling.
Because you didn’t get it.
You earned it, you won it.

There are a few reasons for that small but significant difference.
• IKEA Effect, we value what we put effort into
• Endowment Effect, once it feels like “ours”, value increases
• Effort Justification, the brain convinces us it was worth it

Even tiny interactions trigger this.
Not minutes. Seconds.

Recently we used this audience experience technique on a brand activation for one of our clients, Miro. It turned giveaways into a moment, not a handout.

A simple digital game. An oversized gacha machine.
Small actions. Big shift:

More dwell time. More conversations. Stronger brand recall. All because the audience had a role to play and we didn’t just add a game; we made the game relate to the product story.

Miro is built around creativity and productivity, with a playful edge to their brand.

So we designed the experience around one simple idea:
Playful productivity pays off.

A custom arcade-style game built from Miro board elements and icons.

Fun, fast, slightly competitive, but grounded in how the platform works.
Play → engage → solve → win.

The prize wasn’t just a giveaway.

It was the same story, of the Miro user experience in physical form.

Use Miro well, and the payoff is better, faster, more effective work.

That's the critical hook window for social video before drop-off.. Just 3 seconds!

But here’s the bit people miss…

In live experiences, you don’t get much longer.

You’ve got roughly 3–7 seconds.

According to Nielsen Norman Group and Event Marketing Institute, as soon as someone enters a space their brain is scanning:

What’s happening here?

Is this worth my time?

Where should I look?

Different medium. Same judgement.

Yes, live gives you more to play with, scale, sound, lighting, people.

And social proof helps, if others are engaged, attention follows.

But nothing fundamental changes.

The brain still avoids effort.

Confusion still kills attention.

So your “first 3 seconds” in live isn’t the opening line.

It’s the first moment of encounter:

The walk-in.

The first visual.

The first sound.

The first feeling.

If that moment doesn’t signal clarity, intrigue or energy,

you’re already on the back foot.

They might not swipe off…

We recently had the pleasure of supporting Miro’s Innovation Imperative event at the beautiful Barbican Conservatory.

With around 150 attendees, the event brought together inspiring keynotes, interactive product showcases, and dedicated networking zones. From the ‘AI Zone’ with hands-on experiences using Miro Assist to the ‘Genius Bar’ and photo opportunities in the stunning conservatory setting, every detail captured Miro’s infinite canvas philosophy – limitless opportunities for creativity and connection.
