There is often unspoken expectations that women should “hold the family together “at all costs. In many church settings, messages about forgiveness, endurance and submission can be misapplied in many ways that discourage women from speaking out. Survivors /victims of domestic abuse may be told to be patient or to avoid airing dirt laundry. Divorce in this context can be seen not as a step towards safety or healing but as a personal failure, lack of faith,or even betrayal of cultural and spiritual values. This stereotype places an unfair burden on women especially those experiencing domestic abuse, pressuring them to remain in harmful situations to preserve appearance or avoid judgment.
On this Day we will be challenging narratives by discussing openly about Domestic Abuse, Divorce and mental health.
