For our 104th episode we have another special one, we welcome a name firmly woven into the history of UK breaks - Brothers Bud.
Emerging from Birmingham during the early-2000s breakbeat explosion, Brothers Bud became closely associated with the legendary Finger Lickin’ Records, carving out their own brand of chunky, funk-fuelled dancefloor breaks, rolling basslines and crossover electro-house energy.
Tracks including “Herbgrinder”, “The Sting” and “Yap Yap” became staples of the era, finding their way into the boxes of some of the scene’s biggest names, with support over the years from the likes of Plump DJs, Soul of Man, Kid Kenobi, Rennie Pilgrem and Krafty Kuts.
Their 2003 breakthrough “Herbgrinder” in particular became a bona fide Finger Lickin’ classic, combining old-school party breaks, ragga influence and heavyweight bass, while the Drumattic Twins remix pushed it firmly towards the tougher end of the dancefloor.
More than two decades on, the Brothers Bud name is still very much alive. Recent years have seen a renewed run of releases and collaborations, bringing that unmistakably fun, bass-heavy approach to a new generation while keeping one foot planted firmly in the sound that made the golden era of UK breaks so special.
So for this 104th session, Brothers Bud have stepped up in true style to bring you this mighty guest mix - expect plenty of energetic, chunky electro breaks and more than a few tunes you’ll want to wheel straight back.
