Educating children and young people is so rewarding.

I started volunteering at The Swannery Youth Club last year. The girls completed Stage 1 of the ā€˜Revolution Fashion School’ last month and Luis, Youth Worker Coordinator, sent me this afterwards:

ā€œI would like to give a huge thanks to Lou, on behalf of the young people and The Wellspring, for all the dedication, hard work, and commitment you put into this project.

It’s been a long journey to get the girls involved, engaged, and following instructions — especially in a youth club environment full of distractions during their social time. Despite this, they chose to participate, and it was truly inspiring to see Lou teaching with such patience, skill, and encouragement.

The girls learned so many valuable personal skills — from teamwork, following instructions, and being patient, to perseverance and sewing. Watching them grow and take pride in their work was amazing!

Thank you again for making this a positive, motivating, and unforgettable experience for the young people.ā€

Recognition - this means I’m doing something right!

As I head into my Final Major Project for my MA Sustainable Fashion Online with Falmouth University I’m excited for where I’m heading. I’ve been accidentally back in education for nearly 6 years!

As a solopreneur with a goal to make change, it can be lonely; we have this incredible community of phenomenal changemakers and I’m grateful to be a part of that, but not many people see you when you’re struggling, and crawling, and broken inside.

I’ve pivoted more times than I can remember in the past few years, and every time has felt more valuable. This last year has been incredibly hard, but I’m thankfully still here and I believe wholeheartedly in what I do.

Textile waste reduction has become my life!

Thank you UK StartUp’s for recognising us and for giving us this incredible platform.

It’s all about CONNECTIVITY!

The monthly ā€˜Community x Arts x Tech Meet-up’ at Knowle West Media Centre centre was incredible this evening!

Phenomenal Creative Technologist, Coral Manton gave an exhilarating overview of what she does and her passion for preparing young people for jobs.

I was overjoyed to discover this incredible human also knows and works with another incredible human - Kirstie Macleod of Kirstie Macleod .

My brain is fizzing with inspiration, ideas, and possible connections!

This post from resonated HUGELY with me when I first saw it!

It dug deep into my core in such a way that I didn’t even notice.

It meant something when I first read and shared it; it meant a cry for action, the sound of hope to rally the troops to make change! Now it means more…

I’ve heard about and seen hope often in the past few months; from .haiven and more! It’s no longer bubbling under the surface, it’s coming to the surface and it feels amazing.

Anything is possible and it takes a community, a WHOLE community.

Are you part of the community? šŸ‘or šŸ‘Ž

If yes, let me know where you’re from!

I’m so proud!!

Yesterday was the last day of the 12 week sewing programme that I created for .

Every designer - aged 6-11 - created unique and fabulous tote bags made from textiles in the home that were destined for waste. The bags were decorated with embroidery they created with their name and decorative shapes. (Photos to follow soon!)

We also took part in the Future Citizen programme created by by hosting a mending workshop. The wonderful joined us too!

These growing humans are incredible; they’re smart, creative, hilarious, caring, kind, questioning and truly remarkable.

I truly feel blessed to have been asked and trusted to lead them into their first experience of sewing, creating, and learning about textile waste reduction.

From learning how to thread a needle and tie a knot, importance of fabric choice and how it’s made, to using a machine; we danced to create cross-stitch and learned to always watch your tail!

Every single bag is unique and creative and they’re so proud of them, as they should be!

I made them some keychains for their bags and we presented them with their certificates yesterday. I was literally beaming!
