Update on the next phase of roadworks on the Badminton Road, which will only be overnight temporary traffic lights from 8 pm to 6 am from Monday 22nd June.

I will keep you updated on any further news.

News on A432 Travel Improvements

A432 Badminton Road - upcoming improvements in Coalpit Heath
We are continuing to make strong progress on the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) project, which is transforming key routes across the area to support safer, more accessible and more sustainable journeys. It is a key step in completing the A432 active travel corridor, improving connections between Yate and Coldharbour Lane and linking communities with major employment and education destinations such as Bristol Business Park and the University of the West of England’s Frenchay campus.

To date, work has progressed at pace across both the A432 and A4174 corridors, with every effort made to accelerate delivery wherever possible, particularly ahead of the reopening of the new M4 overbridge.

Along the A4174 Avon Ring Road (4.2km between Coldharbour Lane and Wick Wick roundabout), we have already delivered significant improvements, including additional road lanes to increase capacity, new segregated cycle lanes and footpaths (including widening existing shared-use paths), and upgraded crossing facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. This work also allowed us to resurface the westbound carriageway of the Ring Road.

On the A432 Badminton Road, the current scheme spans approximately 5.5km (M4 overbridge to Yate Park & Ride). This next phase, which includes the section of the A432 between the Coalpit Heath railway viaduct to Frog Lane, is a vital step in completing this part of the route.

Moving into the next phase

As the project enters its final stages in Coalpit Heath, some of the remaining works, particularly those requiring lane restrictions, would cause significant disruption if carried out during the day.

This is especially important as we approach the reopening of the M4 overbridge, when traffic levels are expected to increase considerably. It is anticipated that up to 20,000 vehicles a day will travel along Badminton Road when back to normal levels. To help keep the network moving and minimise congestion for residents, commuters, schools and businesses, we will therefore be shifting to overnight working.

Working at night allows us to complete essential works more efficiently, while reducing the impact during peak daytime hours. While we recognise this may cause some disturbance in the short term, it avoids more prolonged and widespread disruption during the day.

We will take steps to minimise noise wherever possible, including completing the most disruptive groundworks earlier in the evening.

When and Where:

Start date: Week commencing Monday 22 June 2026
Duration: Works are expected to be completed by March 2027
Location: A432 Badminton Road from the Coalpit Heath railway viaduct to Frog Lane
Working hours: Overnight, 8:00pm to 6:00am
Traffic management: Temporary traffic signals will be in operation in multiple locations overnight during these hours and then removed during the normal working day
Summary of Improvements and Local Considerations

Improvements include:

New segregated footpaths and cycle lanes
Improved junction layouts and clearer road configurations
Safer pedestrian and cyclist crossings
Enhancements to walking, wheeling, cycling and bus stop facilities
In response to feedback from residents, drop-in sessions and the parish council:

Access to private property will be maintained, although short delays may occur when work is taking place directly outside driveways. Our engagement team and workforce will liaise with you directly during these periods and attempt to keep any disruption to a minimum.
Recycling collections and delivery services will continue as normal.
Access to side roads will remain open where practicable, however to complete works through Coalpit Heath there may be localised closures at the side road junctions. Further information on when and where specific side roads will be closed will be published on our dedicated project website (sign up details below).
Crossing facilities will be upgraded or added throughout the route.
This project is funded by the Department for Transport through the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement and is managed by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while these essential improvements take place.
