Lighthouse

Lighthouse Support artists using digital technology & help people succeed in the creative & cultural industries.

Lighthouse is a Brighton-based arts charity that supports artists who use digital technology in their work and helps people find routes into and succeed within the creative and cultural industries. From our central Brighton venues, we offer education and talent development programmes, commission artists to make and present new work, and produce exhibitions, talks and residencies. We have two key

talent development programmes for underrepresented young creatives - Lighthouse Young Creatives and Future Creative Leaders. In 2024 we opened the Lighthouse Project Space, Brighton’s first public, youth-led art space. It provides young creatives with a dynamic, multipurpose space to produce, create, perform, showcase and collaborate on artistic projects.

❓What would your city look like if you got to build it from scratch?
❓How would you move through it?
❓Where would you rest, create, grow?

These were some of the questions our Future Creative Leaders Meg, Lucia and Freya asked at their ‘Create Your Own Dream City’ workshop with Art in Mind for Brighton Festival last month.

They ran an open, creative afternoon making 2D and 3D collages from found materials. The focus of the workshop was on reimagining nature, transport and neighbourhood life through your hands.

Swipe to see some of the pieces of work made during the workshop.

💫 Many thanks to our funders & partners Innovate UK, Chalk Cliff Trust, Sussex Community Foundation Enjoolata Foundation, Brighton Festival Art in Mind and Brighton Youth Centre (BYC).

🥳Lighthouse is officially 40! To celebrate, we’re building a creative legacy together✨
For four decades, we’ve championed creativity as a powerful force for confidence, connection and change. Along the way, we’ve supported thousands of people in discovering their voice, developing their skills, and finding their place in the creative world.

But independent creative spaces like Lighthouse are disappearing across the UK.
✨With , we’re inviting you to help the next generation of young creatives from underrepresented backgrounds access opportunities, develop their skills and shape culture for the future.

By giving monthly (even just the price of a coffee ☕), you can become part of our living legacy, supporting talent, opening doors and keeping creativity accessible for all.

Together, we can keep the Lighthouse on for the next generation of change makers.

Safe to say, our Future Creative Leaders programmed some epic events for this year’s Brighton Festival. 🔥

The Lighthouse team is all still buzzing, and we’re loving looking through all the photos and content that was captured throughout May.

Our FCL smashed every single detail. And this is exactly why empowering young creatives and creating youth-led spaces matters so much. 👏

"Community is actually about getting on and spending time with people who you don't necessarily fully share the same opinions with..." 🤝

Did you catch our sound booth that featured at all our events across ? Our Future Creative Leaderss used it to ask our community what it takes to build a better future.

And the answers you gave us were all about connection, shared traditions, and embracing our differences.

What’s one thing you’re ready to change in your community today? Drop us your answers in the comments 👇

'What kind of person does the future need more of?'

This is just one of many questions our Future Creative Leaders have been exploring through their 'We, Generate' programme of events for

We've had three events so far and we're finishing up with a youth takeover at Brighton Dome Studio Theatre this bank holiday Monday.

Continue the thinking with us at 'Celebrating Humanity, Hopefully' featuring:

We, Generate is the culmination of a month-long series of Future Creative Leaders events across Brighton Festival, each asking the same question:

What does it look like to activate—not just inspire—young people’s hopeful imagination?
