Lighthouse is a Brighton-based arts charity that supports artists who use digital technology in their work and helps people find routes into and succeed within the creative and cultural industries. From our central Brighton venues, we offer education and talent development programmes, commission artists to make and present new work, and produce exhibitions, talks and residencies. We have two key

talent development programmes for underrepresented young creatives - Lighthouse Young Creatives and Future Creative Leaders. In 2024 we opened the Lighthouse Project Space, Brighton’s first public, youth-led art space. It provides young creatives with a dynamic, multipurpose space to produce, create, perform, showcase and collaborate on artistic projects.

A little heads-up: our Lighthouse Young Creatives (LYC) programme is taking a break this year while we reapply for funding to run the programme. We’re hoping to be back in 2027. Stay tuned for more info. 💛

In the meantime, we have lots of youth-led events, workshops and creative opportunities happening at Lighthouse, which we’ll share as they come up.

The best way to hear about these is to follow us on Instagram and/or sign up for our LYC-specific mailing list. You can also subscribe to our Luma calendar for updates on all events - link also in our bio and in comments!

These are great ways to meet other young creatives, try something new and get involved with the wider creative community in Brighton, so keep an eye out!

Whose green space is it anyway? A collaboration with Mind, Body and Earthand earth and , supported by Lighthouse.

We took a journey through Brighton Kemptown’s green spaces. It was an investigation into which spaces are public, which are private and why!

We moved together as a group, stopping at the green spaces we passed along the way. We asked people how they felt about the spaces around them, who they’re for and why some are gated while others are open to all!

Together we mapped every green space we passed, and marked what was public, what was private, and how each one felt.

The event was part of Mind, Body + Earth's Common Ground, a summer series of free and donation-based creative workshops held in Brighton’s parks and green spaces. It’s about connecting people, sharing skills, and building community outdoors – one space at a time.

Now, arguably more than ever, we need time and space to just simply play. ❤️

Last month, we welcomed the beautiful artist and musician Faisal Salah, also known as to Brighton for a week-long residency at Lighthouse. He spent his time exploring play as a tool for learning, development, creativity and self-expression.

Working alongside our Future Creative Leader of , FACESOUL developed his holistic arts practice before sharing it with a group of 15 participants in Kemptown’s Secret Garden.

The result? A space to slow down, reconnect and remember the simple joy of creative play. As FACESOUL puts it: “Play is the foundation for creativity.”

From rest and regeneration to accessibility and expression, FACESOUL’s residency opened up new possibilities for how we think about our creative practice, and how we can make space for everyone to take part.

There are some events you attend, and others you become part of.

Our 'Celebrating Humanity, Hopefully' event with STEAM DOWN was one of those nights. It reminded us why creating spaces where people can genuinely come together matters.

Here they are joined on stage by Hutch for a special performance that touched our souls.

Jazz, soul, poetry, dance and improvisation transformed the room into a space of connection and shared experience.

Hosted as part of our We, Generate programme, curated by our Future Creative Leaders (FCL) for , this was Steam Down's first-ever in Brighton.

“This isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about finding who has always been there.”

Naiya, one of our Future Creative Leaders, recently sat down with Lighthouse's Bobby Brown for a real, open conversation about his journey, from fear and self-doubt to confidence, purpose and self-belief.

Part of that journey included moving from his old nickname Dred back to his birth name Naiya, a powerful symbol of renewal and stepping fully into himself.

The resulting photo series, captured by Giles Cook , with titles such as ‘Guarded’, ‘Two Feet In’, ‘Shedding’, ‘The Confrontation’, ‘Trusting’, ‘Inner Work’, and ‘Screwface Yout’, captures that renewal in motion. Each image tells a piece of the story: the walls coming down, the old identities being let go, and the quiet courage it takes to finally be seen.

The photo series (on our Read Watch Listen blog) capture more than an artist at work. They document someone in motion. Someone choosing faith instead of fear, presence over performance and community over isolation.

Naiya also opened up about his roots in music, his love of storytelling, and his newer ventures into fitness and community through the FLOW movement, along with his growing ambitions in film and acting.

We keep coming back to our night with Steam Down earlier in the year. Still beaming about this one.

“You’re not watching us. You’re a part of this. It’s more about getting the vibes and enjoying yourself. That’s it.” — STEAM DOWN This really sums up what Celebrating Humanity, Hopefully felt like out in the crowd.

Hosted as part of our We, Generate programme, curated by our Future Creative Leaders for , this was Steam Down's first-ever in Brighton. And they invited us all to take part, not just sit back and watch.

Jazz, soul, poetry, dance and improvisation transformed the room into a space where everyone who was there brought their own unique energy and made the night what it was.

These are the kinds of events we really care about creating. Spaces where creativity becomes a catalyst for connection, conversations gently emerge, and community begins to grow through the joy of these shared experiences.

Last week Mind, Body and Earth held a Holistic Arts Workshop with Facesoul as part of Facesoul's residency here at Lighthouse. The event started with an introduction, where attendees shared something about themselves alongside a movement that everyone else copied.

🥰What followed was a joyful and energetic session with embodied play, where we, as a community, engaged with our bodies, feelings and each other.

Safe to say, there was a lot of laughter as we all let go of our inhibitions and reclaimed our creativity. The Secret Garden was the perfect space for our small, intimate gathering. Facesoul (Faisal Salah) closed the event with an acappella rendition of one of his songs, and then we all enjoyed a meal together as the sun set over us.

“First and foremost, I say the entire experience was wonderful… It went really well and opened up a new door to be able to develop play as the foundation for creativity. Some of my feedback from the participants was that they just had a really fun time… it was a beautiful space to just rest and regenerate in creative play.” Facesoul

It’s been a chocca couple of months here at Lighthouse HQ, with a jam-packed programme of events for Brighton Festival programmed by our Future Creative Leaders (FCL). We’ve been collabing with Meg (also one of our FCLs), founder of Mind Body and Earth. She’s been running a brilliant summer series called COMMON GROUND, bringing people together in Brighton’s green spaces. Last weekend, eott.uk ’s ( co-run by our FCL Levvy) first-ever festival Lightworks daytime was a beautiful mindful music festival.

What happens when together we make space to ask honest questions, share some real stories and truths, and actively listen to one another?

Here's a look back at @ Your Service with Jordan Stephens, Kaia Allen-Bevan and our very own Bobby Brown. We brought people together to explore the role of local services, lived experiences and community in shaping who we become. The event was part of our ‘Celebrating Humanity, Hopefully’ programme, curated by our Future Creative Leaders for Brighton Festival. .ab
